New Zealand will be pretty pleased with the way things have panned out so far but in a time where we are seeing the scoring rate close to 4 runs in an over in Test matches, the Kiwis have chosen to remain watchful. Kane Williamson and Rachin Ravindra are putting on a big stand here and the former skipper has already notched up a half-century. They will be looking to finish Day 1 with as many wickets in hand as possible and pile on the pressure on Day 2. Join us in a few minutes as a crucial final session on Day 1 is coming up next.

SESSION SUMMARY - 27 overs, 60 runs and no wickets. Another fairly slow and sedate session for South Africa but they didn't bowl badly. The pacers actually bowled tight lines for most of the session and kept the scoring rate down but the major issue was the lack of wicket-taking being created. And, when the chance did come the catch was dropped which could be costly. They need to pick themselves up and show more intent when they come out after the interval if they are to make inroads late in the day.
