Against the run of play, India lost Kohli in the 29th over as he chopped on a returning Pat Cummins' delivery back onto his stumps.

The third ball of the Cummins 6th over was a back of length delivery which bounced a bit extra than Kohli anticipated. As Kohli rose on his toes to defend it, with a slightly angled bat, it proved to be fatal for him. The ball took the inside edge of Kohli's bat and went on to hit his stumps.

As the bails lit up, Kohli was in total disbelief and so was the 1,30,000-plus crowd at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

Before Kohli got dismissed for 54, he scored his first fifty of the World Cup final and went on to add crucial 67 runs with KL Rahul for the fourth wicket.

Kohli got to his fifty off 56 balls.

Kohli, who started this match as the tournament's leading batsman with 711 runs, scored a record-breaking 50th one-day international hundred in unbeaten hosts India's 70-run semi-final win over New Zealand.
