‘Police escort…’: Wife of Australian all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner takes a jibe after Indore molestation incident

Australia all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner and her wife Monica Wright on Monday took a jibe at the security arrangements in India.

Monica posted an Instagram story showing the couple sitting in a taxi, with the caption: "Police escort to the café."

In the photo, two police constables behind the couple’s taxi can be seen striking a pose.

Last week, two Australian women cricketers participating in the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup were allegedly stalked, and one of them was molested by a motorcycle-borne man in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, on Thursday morning. The accused was apprehended within hours of the incident, based on the motorcycle number noted by a bystander.

The incident occurred when the cricketers had stepped out of their hotel and were walking towards a café in the Khajrana Road area. A man on a motorcycle followed them and inappropriately touched one of them before riding away.

The two women immediately contacted their team security officer, Danny Simmons, sharing their live location. Simmons relayed this information to the local security liaison officer, enabling the police to quickly reach the spot.



Cricket Australia confirmed the incident, stating that two team members were approached and touched inappropriately by a motorcyclist while walking to a café in Indore, and that the team security had reported the matter to the police.

Defending champions Australia will face hosts India in the semifinal clash at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Thursday.
