BENGALURU: Youngsters trying to make their mark in the Karnataka team gave a good account of themselves in the practice match against the Asian Games-bound Indian men's team. At the KSCA Alur (1) ground here on Friday, Mayank Agarwal and his men registered a six-wicket win. Left-arm spinner Shubhang Hegde (3/17) and medium pacer Manoj Bhandage (4/15) were on fire as they probed and troubled the batters. Joining the party was the dependable V Koushik (3/36).

Opting to bat, India without their mainstay batter Ruturaj Gaikwad and Tilak Varma, who are with the squad currently playing the ODI series against Australia, posted 133. Dropped by Pravin Dubey off Vidwath Kaverappa in the second over, Yashasvi Jaiswal made a 17-ball 31 before he fell leg before to left-arm spinner Hegde.

Prabhsimran Singh (49) then tried to hold the innings together even as wickets tumbled at the other end. In reply, Chethan LR (29) and Agarwal (19) gave Karnataka a good start, but the cynosure of the day was the seasoned Manish Pandey (52 n.o; 40b; 3x4; 2x6), who, along with Abhinav Manohar (17 n.o), saw the team through with five balls to spare.

Brief scores: India: 133 all out in 20 overs (Yashasvi Jaiswal 31, Prabhsimran Singh 49; V Koushik 3-36, Shubhang Hegde 3-17, Manoj Bhandage 4-15) lost to Karnataka: 135/4 in 19.1 overs (Chethan LR 29, Manish Pandey 52 n.o).
