A retired headmaster, Ram Venkat Narsaiah, was booked under the Maintenance and Welfare of Senior Citizens Act, 2007 for ill-treating his nonagenarian mother in Telangana's Mancherial district near Karim Nagar.

Narsaiah, shockingly, left his 90-year-old mother in a pathetic condition and the district administration was alerted after her plight went viral on social media. The woman was left naked in the balcony of her son's apartment in the scorching heat.

"The woman, Radhamma, was without any clothes when we rescued her," Mancherial revenue divisional officer (RDO) BSV Pratap said, adding,"The administration went to the apartment based on WhatsApp messages that were circulated by his (Narsaiah) neighbours."

Seeing her condition, Pratap bought a saree for the elderly and ensured that she was shifted to government hospital. “We are conducting counselling session for the family. She will be kept in an old age home and expenses will be deducted from her son’s pension,” RDO Pratap said.
