NEW DELHI: Railways have earned Rs 55,382.80 crore as revenue from freight traffic during April 2011 to January 2012, registering an increase of 9.70 per cent.
The amount earned from freight was Rs 50,487.91 crore during the corresponding period last year, a ministry official said.
Railways carried 791.84 million tonnes of freight during April-January period as compared to 755.86 million tonnes carried during the corresponding period last year.
The freight earning in January was Rs 6173.57.
