Rail Budget: Rs 99 cr for MMTS phase-II project

The Railway ministry has sanctioned Rs 99 crore for the Multi-Modal Transport System (MMTS) Phase-II in the 2012-13 budget. The MMTS currently serves over 1.6 lakh passengers every day.

HYDERABAD: The Railway ministry has sanctioned Rs 99 crore for the Multi-Modal Transport System (MMTS) Phase-II in the 2012-13 budget on Wednesday. The MMTS currently serves over 1.6 lakh passengers every day.
MMTS phase II cost has been pegged at Rs 632 cr. The state government would bear two-third cost, while the railways will bear the remaining expenditure.

“The Union railways minister has sanctioned Rs 99 cr for MMTS Phase II. Planning and estimation works will be taken up first. However, visible progress can be seen only by 2013 or 2014,” South Central Railway (SCR) general manager G N Asthana said. He, however, did not point out a definite timeframe for the project.
On the other hand, state government officials claimed the state would deliver on its commitment and provide required funds.
“The railways will be executing the project . Whatever is the requirement in terms of funds and other infrastructure , we are committed to meet it,” principal secretary, Municipal Administration & Urban Development department, Sam Bob told TOI.
As part of the MMTS Phase-II , which would roughly cover 100 km, the Railways would take up doubling and electrification of the Moula Ali-Sanathnagar (21.85 km), Moula Ali-Malkajgiri-Sitaphalmandi (10 km), Secunderabad-Bolarum-Medchal (28 km) stretches, Falaknuma-Umdanagar-Shamshabad (20 km) new line, doubling & electrification, Moula-Ali- Ghatkesar (12.2 km) quadrupling and electrification and resotroration of the Telapur-Patancheru (8.75 km) old line.
