8 most unique hotels from across the world

All over the world, hotels have taken some extraordinary forms that will definitely leave you astonished. Some of the hotels all over the world offer some unique experiences; from remote Arctic glass igloos to underwater suites in tropical paradises, these unique and weird hotels captivate travelers with their innovative architecture, unusual locations, and immersive atmospheres. These hotels are for all those people seeking an experience beyond ordinary lodging and wanting to stay at some extraordinary locations.

Let’s take a look at some unique hotels all over the world:

2/9

Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort, Finland

This place is located north of the Arctic Circle in Finnish Lapland. This hotel is located right by the Urho Kekkonen National Park, one of Finland’s largest national parks. This resort is mainly known for its glass igloos, which is a uniquely shaped accommodation with curved glass roofs and also has underground structures that are designed to give guests an unobstructed view of the sky, mainly the Northern Lights in winter. This place provides quite a unique experience to its guests with its transparent dome structures, as this gives the guests a perfect view of the sky without compromising their warmth or comfort.

3/9

Conrad Maldives Rangali Island, Maldives

This resort has its own unique accommodation called the Muraka, which is a two-level underwater residence. The master bedroom is submerged 16 feet below sea level and has floor-to-ceiling windows that provide panoramic views of marine life. This architectural concept is a perfect blend of engineering today along with natural surroundings. This resort also has an underwater restaurant, which is the world’s first all-glass underwater restaurant, offering a breathtaking view of the coral reef ecosystem.

4/9

Jumbo Stay, Sweden

This was an aircraft hotel located near Stockholm Arlanda Airport. This was a converted hotel; the retired 1976 Boeing 747 jumbo jet was converted into a hotel. This hotel still has the airplane’s original interior and now has guest rooms with aviation-inspired elements. Guests get an airplane-like experience while staying on the ground as they sleep in airplane-style cabins in the fuselage. This unique concept depicted Swedish innovation and design. Sadly, this hotel was closed in March 2025.

5/9

Ice Hotel, Sweden

This ice hotel is rebuilt each year from ice and snow and is located in Jukkasjärvi, Sweden. This hotel features sculpted suites, ice bars, and artwork, all of which have been carved from natural ice taken from the Torne River nearby. The hotel architecture is quite unique and has a new design each year, which is made by international ice artists. This hotel also has ice furniture and sculptures, making it even more ‘visit-worthy’.

6/9

Giraffe Manor, Kenya

This hotel is located in Nairobi and is a boutique hotel which is built in the style of a colonial manor house of the 1930s. The architecture of this hotel has a colonial charm to it with a warm atmosphere, and one can see the traditional stone walls, wood paneling, and gardens here too. The most attractive thing about this hotel is that it provides shelter to the Rothschild’s giraffes that freely roam the grounds and sometimes poke their heads inside windows during breakfast, offering guests a rare wildlife encounter.

7/9

The Wigwam Motel, USA

This place is situated around the historic Route 66. This motel was built in 1949 and it has a Native American style that blends with mid-20th century American roadside culture. Here, the cabins have conical shapes and the interiors have retro furnishings and give a nostalgic American charm. The rooms are built in the form of tipis, mistakenly referred to as wigwams. It originally had seven different locations: two locations in Kentucky and one each in Alabama, Florida, Arizona, Louisiana, and California.

8/9

Book and Bed, Tokyo, Japan

This is a hostel-type lodging which gives a perfect blend of a bookstore with a hostel. This place is like a paradise for book lovers, as even the interiors have full-height bookshelves and have thousands of books on them with various topics. The layout of this hotel is compact and cozy, and the sleeping pods are placed amongst the bookshelves. It’s like a dream which we all wanted to live once in our life. This unique fusion of sleeping and reading spaces attracts bibliophiles, offering an immersive literary experience alongside accommodation.

9/9

Anthénea, France

This is the world’s first floating eco-deluxe pod which has a water-based accommodation. This pod has solar power and innovative sustainability features, making it an eco-friendly spot. The architectural design is compact, aerodynamic, and built to coexist with natural aquatic environments. This place is unique as it offers luxury with an unconventional water lodging. These pods can be rented off the coast of Brittany, France.
