From beaches to ancient ruins: 5 experiences that define Puducherry!

Puducherry provides a unique blend of French colonial heritage and vibrant Indian culture. Visitors can witness the city that beautifully blends history, diverse culture, and unique architecture. This place has had a great French influence, which is why the places here have a mark of French influence in the city’s layout, colonial buildings, and lifestyle. It has a multi-cultural atmosphere, making it a popular destination and also greatly attracting tourists from across the world.

Let’s take a look at some places you can visit here:

The perfect spot for those who are history enthusiasts or those who are interested in archaeology. Arikamedu is an ancient archaeological site and was a major trading port between European countries and Rome from the 2nd century BCE to the 8th century CE. Archaeologists have found Amphorae, Arretine ware, Roman lamps, glassware, glass and stone beads, and gems at the site. Religious idols have also been found here, giving the place religious significance as well. A statue of Brahma was excavated here, as well as other idols of Hindu gods. This place is also considered a bridge between Roman and Indian architecture.

Veerampattinam Beach

Veerampattinam Beach derives its name from the village located nearby and has a long coastline, which is considered the longest one in the whole town. This beach is beautiful and is covered in lush greenery because of the fertile soil and water available here. Tourists can relax around the calm waters and sunbathe as well. One can also swim here, as the water is shallow, and the golden sands make it perfect for walking and playing beach games. The best part about this beach is that it is underrated and faces very little crowd.
