Dubai on a budget: Best places to go shopping

Dubai’s shopping scene is usually linked to luxury brands and massive malls, but that’s only part of the story. With rising costs and shifting travel priorities, more people are turning to places that offer real value. The good news? Dubai has plenty of them– if you know where to look.

Whether you’re a resident watching your budget or a visitor who wants more for less, here are a few places where price and variety go hand in hand.

2/7

Dragon Mart– International City

Out in International City, just off Al Awir Road, Dragon Mart is one of the biggest spots in the region for Chinese-made products– everything from curtains and power tools to toys, clothes, and electronics. The prices are already low, but buying a few items together can get you better deals. It doesn’t look fancy, but if you’re after functionality and range, this place delivers. Stores open around 10 in the morning and stay open till 10 PM (11 on weekends).

3/7

Brands For Less & Tchibo– Across Dubai

If you're after branded finds without the premium price tags, keep an eye out for Brands For Less and Tchibo. Brands For Less offers a mix of international fashion, homeware, and even the occasional quirky gadget. Tchibo leans toward clean, European-style minimalism in both home goods and fashion. Their collections change frequently, so what’s available this week might be gone the next. With multiple outlets across Dubai, each store offers a slightly different selection—perfect for savvy shoppers who love the thrill of discovery.

4/7

Meena Bazaar– Bur Dubai

This busy market in Bur Dubai’s Al Fahidi area is known for its connection to South Asian culture. It’s a go-to spot for traditional clothing– sarees, suits, lehengas– and also has shops for jewellery, footwear, luggage, and ready-made garments. If you need tailoring, many shops offer quick, affordable custom stitching. The area gets busy in the evenings, but morning visits (from 10 AM to 1 PM) can be more relaxed, before picking up again after 4 PM.

5/7

Karama Market– Al Karama

Karama has long been the place people go when they want a deal but don’t want the glitz. Located near Kuwait Street, it’s packed with small shops selling handbags, watches, souvenirs, and casual clothes. Prices are usually negotiable– so a bit of bargaining is part of the process. You’ll also find local tailoring services for minor fixes or custom stitching. Shops are generally open from mid-morning into the night.

6/7

Deira Markets– Near Al Ras Metro

Step away from the Gold Souk, and you’ll find other markets scattered through Deira offering everything from fabrics and perfumes to electronics and T-shirts. These shops aren’t flashy, and they’re not always air-conditioned, but if you’re comfortable with some exploring and haggling, there are genuine bargains here. Most of these stores open around 9 AM and wrap up by 9 PM.

7/7

Dubai Outlet Mall – Dubai-Al Ain Road

A little farther out from the city centre sits the Dubai Outlet Mall– worth the drive if you’re looking for discounts on global brands. It has deals on fashion, footwear, electronics, and more, with most items marked down compared to regular mall prices. The layout is straightforward and easy to navigate, with the added benefit of frequent seasonal promotions. It’s open Sunday to Thursday from 10 AM to 10 PM, and till midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
