8 most abandoned mansions in the world

You might have seen lists of the world’s most expensive and impressive houses, but have you ever wondered what happens when they are abandoned?
Here are some of the world’s most famous and expensive mansions where no one has lived for years. These are abandoned!

Take a look:

2/7

Lynnewood Hall, Pennsylvania, USA

Lynnewood Hall was built during the early 1900s by the prominent businessman Peter A. B. Widener. With a size of 110 bedrooms, the construction of this mansion cost the equivalent of more than $300 million in the present day.
The monumental history of the Widener came to an end when they died in the Titanic tragedy. Lynnewood Hall stands to this day without any occupants and has become one of the most popular spots for urban explorers.

3/7

Mobutu's Palace, Gbadolite, Congo

Mobutu's Palace was once the jungle hideaway of Congo’s dictator Mobutu Sese Seko and his soldiers. Also known as the “Versailles of Africa”, this grandiose marble palace is worth a staggering $400 million.
After Mobutu’s fall from his position in 1997, the mansion was plundered and abandoned. It now remains overtaken by vegetation with remnants like a statue of his wife, an empty swimming pool, and fading murals on the walls.

4/7

Bishop's Avenue, London, UK

North London's Bishop's Avenue is infamously known as the "Billionaire's Row." This street has a line of abandoned houses owned by notable figures, businessmen, royalty and celebrities. What sets this place apart from other profile areas is that each of the mansions here is abandoned.
The mansions in Bishop’s Avenue have a collective worth of more than 500 million dollars, but legal battles, financial troubles and insolvency have left them vacant. However, this place attracts many tourists who want to see these grand ‘ghost mansions.’

5/7

Hamilton Palace, Sussex, UK

Hamilton Palace in Sussex was constructed by property tycoon Nicholas van Hoogstraten as a rival to Buckingham Palace. Designed with intricate interiors, marble halls, and gardens meant for grand receptions, it cost more than $160 million.
However, legal disputes and financial controversies caused this project to never be finished. Today, the Hamlinton Palace stands half-constructed and with barriers to keep curious onlookers and explorers out.

6/7

Villa de Vecchi, Cortenova, Italy

Hidden in the hills above Lake Como, Villa de Vecchi is surrounded by many myths. It was constructed in the 1850s by Count Felix de Vecchi to have many balconies, staircases, gardens, and frescoes on the walls.
However, the mansion was abandoned during World War II and is now believed to have hauntings, unexplained sounds, and supernatural sightings as it lies abandoned.

7/7

Wyndclyffe Mansion, New York, USA

Known as the crown jewel of the Hudson River Valley, Wyndclyffe Mansion was commissioned in 1853 by Elizabeth Schermerhorn Jones. It was a sight to behold with large bay windows, arched doorways and wood details.
The mansion has gone through different owners ever since its construction and now lies vacant. It is a popular attraction for urban explorers and unfortunately has been largely tainted by vandals.
