Winter is one of the best times to go on a quick break and explore what lies beyond borders. For Indian passport holders, this time is also perfect for travelling because many countries during this time offer either waive pre-departure visas or offer visa-on-arrival. These nations welcome Indians with open arms and warm hospitality to explore their land.

A beautiful winter Himalayan escape, Bhutan allows Indian passport holders to explore the country without a visa. All Indians need is an entry permit at border points or Paro airport on presentation of accepted identity documents. Winter brings deep valleys, clear skies and some colourful festivals like tshechu. It is also the best time to click stunning photos. It is suggested to book accommodation and transport in advance.

Barbados is one of the most gorgeous Caribbean nations allowing Indians visa-free short visits for tourism. For those dreaming of beaches with rum-trail tours and colonial charm, Barbados is your place! Flights are long but the paperwork is simple. Check flight connections carefully and consider overnight layovers to break up the journey.

Indonesia (Bali and beyond)

Indonesia offers visa-on-arrival (VOA) for Indian passport holders commonly for 30 days. Bali and other islands are especially beautiful in winter. It is perfect for surfers and for enjoying rice-terrace walks. Buy the e-VOA in advance if you want faster processing at arrival; keep local currency for VOA fees and transport.

Seychelles is every sea lover’s dream destination. To visit here, all Indian passport holders need is Visitor’s Permit on arrival (no pre-entry visa required for most nationalities). This Indian-friendly policy makes the archipelago an excellent winter pick for white-sand beaches, nature reserves and island-hopping without paperwork stress. Carry enough cash and proof of accommodation along with return tickets.

The Maldives issues a tourist visa on arrival to most nationalities (including Indians), usually for 30 days. Winter months are considered perfect because of calm seas and world-class diving. Nepal is a Himalayan wonderland and the easiest cross-border Himalayan escape for Indians. Indian passport holders do not need a visa to enter Nepal. With a valid passport or voter ID or other accepted travel documents, Indians can easily enter the country and explore the beauty of unexplored Himalayan escapes. Winters is considered the best time to be in Nepal because of crisp mountain air and clear Everest and Annapurna views. Kathmandu and Pokhara are beautiful during this time.
