6 countries with red, white, and black colours in their national flags

Every nation has a distinct flag, with distinct colours that reflect its identity, history, and shared cultural values. While many nations use red, white, or black individually, only these six countries listed by World Population Review combine all three prominently in their national flags. The group is small, but has flags with strong contrast and bold presence of colours. Each of these flags demonstrate how the same palette can be customised through layout, symbols, and design choices.
Red, white, and black might sound like a simple colour trio, but put them on a flag and suddenly the whole design turns dramatic, loud, bold, and impossible to ignore. Whether symbolising purity, bravery, struggle, or heritage, these colours pack more meaning than meets the eye, making every flag in this palette stand out. Here’s a look at the six countries whose flags include red, white, and black colours.

2/7

Sudan

Sudan’s flag consists of three equal horizontal stripes, red at the top, white in the centre, and black at the bottom. A green triangle sits along the hoist side. Even with the additional green element, red, white, and black remain the flag’s dominant colours.

3/7

Iraq

Iraq’s flag also features three horizontal stripes in the same order, red at the top, white in the centre, and black at the bottom. Placed on the white band is green Kufic Arabic script that reads “Allahu Akbar,” meaning “God is the greatest.”

4/7

Syria

Syria’s national flag features the same red, white, and black horizontal stripes, with two green five-pointed stars positioned on the white band. This follows the Pan-Arab colour pattern but includes its own distinct symbols within the central stripe.

5/7

Egypt

Egypt’s flag follows the familiar red-white-black horizontal layout. On the central white stripe is the golden Eagle of Saladin. Although gold is added through the emblem, the primary structure and background remain red, white, and black.

6/7

Yemen

Yemen’s flag is one of the simplest among the six. It consists solely of three horizontal stripes, red at the top, white in the middle, and black at the bottom, without any additional symbols, scripts, or emblems.

7/7

Trinidad and Tobago

Trinidad and Tobago’s flag presents a different interpretation of the colour trio. Instead of horizontal stripes, it uses a red field crossed diagonally by a black band that runs from the upper hoist to the lower fly. This black diagonal band is bordered on both sides by thin white stripes. The diagonal design stands out among other countries using the same three colours.
