10 most expensive places that the world visited in 2025

While travelling, we all set a budget beyond which we try not to stretch. And no matter what you set your average daily cost when travelling, there are always certain destinations that provide once-in-a-lifetime experiences for a fraction of a cost, while others will burn a hole in your pocket for anything you want to try new. Figuring out places as per the 2025 data by Hellosafe (prices in USD) on average daily travel expenses, which include lodging, food, local transportation and tourist attractions (international airfare not included), these are the 10 most expensive countries to visit in 2025.

2/11

Barbados – $344 per day

Barbados is the priciest spot on this list by far. A heavy emphasis on upscale tourism, beachfront resorts and imported food supplies sends daily costs skyrocketing above most other Caribbean neighbours. Even keeping to cost-effective hotels and eating out relatively cheaply can add up quickly, making Barbados more appealing for higher-budget travellers.

3/11

Antigua and Barbuda – $323 per day

Antigua and Barbuda, which is renowned for its white sandy beaches and luxury resorts, depends largely on tourism revenue. There are few budget accommodations available and the reliance on imported products keeps food, transportation and activities more expensive. Luxury yachting and private beach development also help drive up the amount spent per day.

4/11

Saint Kitts and Nevis – $282 per day

Saint Kitts and Nevis appeals to visitors looking for secluded escapes, limited crowds and luxury. Yet with fewer overall hotels and services, competition remains scant, so prices are high. Lodging and eating can eat through a daily budget, while excursions and moving between the islands are costs on top of all travel.

5/11

Maldives – $279 per day

The Maldives remains one of the most expensive places in the world to visit because of its resort-island concept. Most guests stay on private islands, where accommodation, meals and activities are bundled at high-end prices. Daily spending mounts fast with transfers by speedboat or seaplane.

6/11

Grenada – $269 per day

Grenada is more low key in the Caribbean, but expensive with limited infrastructure and reliance on imports. Smaller guesthouses are an option, but it can be tough as travellers frequently experience inflated prices for travel, food and organised tours during high season.

7/11

Switzerland – $260 per day

Switzerland’s high standard of living is immediately projected into travel costs. Hotels, restaurants, even basic groceries are some of the most expensive in Europe. Efficient public transport and breathtaking alpine scenery come at a price, making Switzerland one of the costliest mainland destinations.

8/11

United States – $258 per day

The average cost to travel in the US is pulled higher by pricy cities like New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles. Accommodation, car hire, petrol and attraction tickets meaningfully add to daily budgets in hotspots/tourist areas or national parks.

9/11

Micronesia – $258 per day

Micronesia’s far flung Pacific location makes travel exorbitantly expensive. Few flights, few rooms for rent and imported food supplies result in high daily costs. And though visits are few, high infrastructure costs make the price to visitors even higher.

10/11

Greenland – $230 per day

Greenland, with its punishing climate and isolation, walks a fine line when it comes to being self-reliant: Almost everything has to be imported. Rooms are in short supply, the bus from town to town is expensive, and food costs a fortune. Adventure tourism, like glacier hiking and Arctic expeditions, also contributes to daily costs.

11/11

United Arab Emirates - $230 per day

The UAE is a place of luxury resorts, fine dining and high-priced entertainment. And while there are budget options, particularly beyond the big cities, tourists in Dubai and Abu Dhabi face notoriously expensive hotels as well as pricey attractions driving up average daily spend.

Disclamer: Figures are average daily estimates for 2025 based on Hellosafe data.Costs may vary by season, travel style, and location. Travellers are advised to cross-check prices and local conditions before planning or booking.
