10 cleanest countries in the world as per EPI index

On an individual level, it’s about daily habits, but when it comes to ranking nations on the basis of cleanliness, a wide variety of factors come into play. Pollution levels, climate change impact, waste management, deforestation, and some prominent factors considered while ranking countries in this regard. The Environmental Performance Index (EPI), which is a globally recognised assessment tool, ranks nations based on environmental health and ecosystem vitality. Its latest data, updated last in 2024, highlights how certain countries, many of them in Europe, are consistently leading the way by adopting sustainable policies, reducing emissions, and improving waste management. Here are 10 nations leading the world in cleanliness, sustainability, and environmental performance, based on EPI performance.

This long-term commitment to eco-friendly infrastructure positions Denmark as a global benchmark for environmental performance.

Next up is Malta, coming next to Denmark. Scored comparatively high on EPI index, this country showcased how being a small nation still managed to succeed with strong environmental intent.
