Is your diet the secret to healthy hair?

When it comes to your body everything is connected and the food you eat does a lot more than just give you energy. It also helps make your hair strong, shiny and long. If your hair looks dull feels brittle or is shedding a lot, changing what you eat might help more than using shampoo. Eating a diet with good protein, omega-3 fatty acids, zinc, folate and important vitamins can help you get the best hair possible.

Biological Connection

Before we dive into vitamins, your body needs enough calories to support hair growth and keep your hormones balanced. This means crash diets can cause hair shedding. The average adult woman needs about 2,000 calories a day. The food you eat helps build your hair. Hair is mostly made of a protein called "keratin," so if you don't eat clean protein, your hair can't grow healthy and strong.

3/6

Eating a Variety of Whole Foods for Hair Health

While salmon is great you need to eat a variety of foods for hair. Almonds and walnuts are good for protein and healthy fats. Eggs are also great because they have high-quality protein and important vitamins. If you like meat, skin-on chicken and homemade bone broth are good. Legumes like beans and lentils are good for iron. Citrus fruits, potatoes and spinach are also good for your hair.

4/6

Power of Wild Salmon for Hair Health

Wild salmon is great for your hair. Its packed with protein, collagen and zinc which help make your hair strong. Sockeye salmon has a lot of vitamin D, which's important because not having enough vitamin D can cause hair thinning. Experts say to eat least two servings of wild salmon a week. Don't throw away the skin. It's good for you. Helps with scalp elasticity and hair density.

5/6

What to Avoid for Healthy Hair

Some foods can hurt your hair growth. Try to avoid processed foods and sugary sweets which can cause inflammation. Also be careful with seafood. Avoid fish with mercury like swordfish and bigeye tuna. Mercury can cause hair shedding. Limit. Sugary drinks like soda, which can cause hair loss.

6/6

Lifestyle habits for healthy hair

A diet is not enough. You also need to take care of your body and hair. Drink plenty of water throughout the day. Manage your stress because high stress levels can cause hair shedding. Be gentle with your hair. Don't use high-heat styling tools much and use a protective serum. Switch to a microfiber towel and a low-friction satin pillowcase to protect your hair while you sleep.
