For eons, the British Royalty have successfully maintained their superiority in the world. They have triumphed in upholding the long-standing traditions passed down by their ancestors and have adhered to all the rules and regulations set by the royal institution. However, irrespective of how appealing their enormous fame and fortune appears to the public, the recent revelations made by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex is not just shocking but highly sensitive.

However, it is not the first time that royals have spoken on public platforms. In the past, many members of the royal household have taken the centerstage and publicly confessed about a lot of things that may or may not have worked in favor of them.

That said, from the Late Princess Diana to Meghan Markle, here are some of the shocking public confessions made by the members of the British Royal Family.

Prince Charles owns up to having an affair with Camilla Parker Bowles

One of the most controversial confessions in the history of British Royalty is that of Prince Charles, who in a 1995 ITN documentary admits to his affair with Camilla Parker Bowles.

In the documentary, filmmaker Jonathan Dimbleby asks the Prince of Wales whether he had been "faithful and honorable" to his wife, Princess Diana. To which, the Prince initially replies, "Yes, absolutely." However, after further questionings, the he adds by saying, "... Until it became irretrievably broken down, us both having tried."

While the documentary was released to safeguard his reputation and to annul all accusations of adultery by Prince Charles, it backfired and the small segment caused a huge damage.

The tell-all interview of Princess Diana in 1995

A year following the disastrous interview by the Prince of Wales, Princess Diana took to telling her side of the story. The explosive 1995 interview conducted by the BBC journalist Martin Bashir not only looked into aspects of Diana's marriage, but also exposed the dark reality of the British Royalty.

While talking about her dying marriage, the late Princess admits that she knew about the affair from a long time. She says, "there were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded."

The Princess also discusses have gone through episodes of intense depression after giving birth to her first son, Prince William, and also resorting to self-harm.

Sarah Ferguson opens up about the News of the World scandal

Following her divorce, Sarah Ferguson gave an interview in 1996. However, what really made news was her 2010 interview with popular TV host and actress, Oprah Winfrey.

Fergie, as she is popularly known, was caught on camera offering access to her ex-husband Prince Andrew to Mazher Mahmood, an undercover reporter for the News of the World, for a fee of £50000.

Later in the interview, she explains, "I haven’t faced the devil in the face because I was in the gutter at that moment." "I’m aware of the fact that I’ve been drinking, you know, that I was not in my right place," she adds.

Prince Andrew's claims in the Jeffery Epstein scandal

The Buckingham Palace was caught in a state of frenzy when Prince Andrew was accused of trafficking ties that also highlighted his association with the late sex offender, Jefferey Epstein.

In conversation with BBC reporter Emily Maitlis, the Duke of York expressed his concerns about letting down the royal family and said, “That's the bit that… as it were, I kick myself for on a daily basis because it was not something that was becoming of a member of the royal family and we try and uphold the highest standards and practices and I let the side down, simple as that."

However, while the motive of giving the interview was to defend the accusations, Prince Andrew went on to say more about how his friendship with Epstein was justifiable. He said, "The people that I met and the opportunities that I was given to learn, either by him or because of him, were actually very useful."

Meghan Markle reveals the dark side of the British Royal Family

In what is now known as one of the biggest bombshell interviews of all time, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry sat down with the popular television host and actress, Oprah Winfrey and revealed the ways in which the Royal 'Firm' functions.

Meghan Markle addressed and opened up about issues that were not just 'concerning' but alarming, considering the high status the royal family holds in and around the world. From members of the royal household having concerns about her baby's skin color to leading her to a point of have suicidal thoughts, each and every statement made by the royal duo indicates the imperfections of the seemingly perfect royal life.

While the revelations made in the recent interview is quite similar to the 1995 interview of Princess Diana, it has yet again welcomed a space for new perspectives and challenged the very core of an age-old institution like the British Royalty.
