From her wedding dress to her new royal title, here is everything you need to know about Princess Beatrice’s secret wedding

In light of the global pandemic, Princess Beatrice of York and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, who were to tie the knot in the month of May, had to postpone their wedding to a later date. However, on 17th July, 2020, the couple said their vows and completed their nuptials in a private ceremony, in attendance of Her Majesty the Queen.

Following the postponement of their wedding in May, the couple chose to keep the ceremony completely exclusive and intimate and made sure that it was attended by the closest of family and friends. Although, the wedding missed the royal charm and overlooked some of the most traditional wedding customs, it sure left everyone in awe and attracted a lot of attention.

Here’s everything you need to know about the wedding.

The wedding ceremony was a private one

Unlike the other royal weddings – that of William & Kate, Harry & Meghan or Princess Eugenie & Jack Brooksbank – which are usually televised, Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli had a more intimate and an understated wedding ceremony. Considering the global crisis and the implication it has had over the world, the wedding took place in the presence of close family and indulged in a low-key celebration.

Princess Beatrice’s wedding dress

For her wedding, Princess Beatrice wore a vintage dress by Norman Hartnell, which is originally owned by the Queen. The dress was made from Peau De Soie taffeta and organza, trimmed with ivory Duchess Satin, and decorated with a hard surface layers of diamanté. The Queen’s personal dressmakers, Angela Kelly and Stewart Parvin, redesigned and fitted the dress according to the wants of the Princess.

The significance of her tiara

Besides the wedding dress, the wedding tiara holds its own beautiful significance. Worn by the Queen on her own wedding day, the tiara was originally made for Queen Mary by Garrard and Co. in 1919, from a diamond necklace given by Queen Victoria for her wedding.

The Groom

While we are all familiar with our beautiful princess and her royal lineage, the groom, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi has his own side of aristocratic story to tell. Born and brought up in an Italian noble family, Mozzi is a multi-millionaire property developer and reigns in the professional line of commercial real estates. The 36-year-old also has a son, called Wolfie, from a previous relationship.

The exclusive guest-list

As pointed out earlier, the wedding ceremony was attended by close family, including Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip, the Princess’ parents, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson and Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank. Apart from them, the groom’s parents also attended the ceremony and his 4 year old son Wolfie was his best man and pageboy.

Prince Andrew’s absence from the official family portraits

Although Prince Andrew attended his daughter’s wedding and walked her down the aisle, he made no appearance in any of the royal portraits of the wedding released by the Buckingham Palace. As is known, Prince Andrew has been scrutinized for his friendship with late Jeffrey Epstein, who was charged with sexual assault on a minor. Following his shocking interview in 2019 regarding the same, he had resigned from all his public duties.
