8 birds known for their vibrant plumage

Birds are living jewels of our planet, admired for their colours, patterns, and grace. Some species look so striking that they seem almost unreal, like flying artworks created by nature. Here are eight of the beautiful birds from around the world known for their beautiful plumage.

2/9

Scarlet macaw

Native to Central and South American rainforests, the Scarlet Macaw is known for its bright red feathers, contrasted with blue and yellow wings. Highly intelligent and social, these parrots live in flocks and are admired for both their dazzling appearance and loud, vibrant calls.

3/9

Rainbow lorikeet

The Rainbow Lorikeet is a kaleidoscope of colour, with a blue head, green wings, and an orange breast. Found in Australia and nearby islands, these energetic birds are nectar feeders, often seen flitting among flowers, their colours blending perfectly with tropical blooms.

4/9

Mandarin duck

The Mandarin Duck hails from East Asia. Males, especially in breeding season, wear ornate plumage with orange “sail” feathers, purple and green accents, and a striking face pattern. Their unique beauty has made them a cultural symbol.

5/9

Keel-billed toucan

This tropical bird, found in Central and South America, is famous for its oversized bill painted in green, orange, red, and blue. The contrast between its colourful beak and dark body makes it unforgettable. Its cheerful calls echo through rainforests, adding life to its beauty.

6/9

Atlantic puffin

Known as the “clown of the sea,” the Atlantic Puffin is a seabird with black and white plumage and a brightly coloured beak that glows in breeding season. Found in the North Atlantic, it’s admired not only for its looks but also for its charming, upright stance.

7/9

Indian roller

The Indian Roller, which is prevalent in the Indian subcontinent, is hailed for its beautiful colour of turquoise and blue hues. In courtship, they do air stunts, rolling and diving in the air, and it is one of the most visible birds to the eye in the sky.

8/9

Golden pheasant

The male Golden Pheasant lives in the western China forests, and is a burst of colour, with a golden crest, crimson body, green back, and a long, patterned tail. It is also one of the most photographed birds in the world, due to its shining feathers.

9/9

Painted bunting

This little North American songbird resembles the palette of a painter. The male is very interesting with a blue head, red chest and green spots.

These all bird species showcases natures's beauty and artistry.
