How Navagraha worship brings peace, prosperity, and protection

Navagraha, or "nine planets," are heavenly entities created by Lord Brahma according to Hindu mythology. They are heavenly forces that provide cosmic equilibrium and impact earthly existence. Sun (Surya), Moon (Chandra), Mars (Mangala), Mercury (Budha), Jupiter (Guru), Venus (Shukra), Saturn (Shani), and lunar nodes Rahu and Ketu are unique energies steering every person's karmic path. Navagraha worship has its origin in ancient texts where these forces are worshiped for their heavenly task of maintaining cosmic order and governing human destiny. How they benefit us and what they do, to know scroll on to read more..

The lord of Navgrahas

Lord Shiva is also referred to as the Lord of Navagrahas, the nine planetary deities of Hindu astrology, as it is said that Shiva has the ultimate power over all the cosmic powers, including the planets that can affect a human being. Lord Shiva is a power that transcends time and space; hence, this supreme position brings him above the Navagrahas, declaring him as their controller and master. Shiva is the destroyer of Karma, and his blessings are required to get rid of troubles, ailments and impediments in life due to planetary positions.

Astrological influence on life

In Hindu astrology, or Jyotisha Shastra, the Navagraha fix the position of celestial objects at birth, which determines one's birth chart or Kundali. The chart determines a person's personality, health, relationships, and career fate. Planetary positions can bring in auspicious or problematic influences—called doshas—that affect parts of life. Prayer and worship of the Navagraha is believed to appease adverse planetary energies, minimize hurdles, and bring harmony, peace, and prosperity by aligning one's life with the energies of the cosmos.

Worship rituals

Navagraha worship comprises particular rituals that are performed to harmonize the energies of these planets. They consist of homas (fire offerings), Navagraha Shanti Puja, chanting of specific mantras, and prasad in the form of flowers, gemstones, and eatables. They are done to please the planets, especially before significant life events like weddings, housewarmings, and pilgrimages, or for correcting repeated issues related to planetary positions. Navagraha temples exist all over India, with idols usually placed in a cluster to represent harmony of planets. To be decorated with gemstones from each planet is also a common practice to gain positive influences.
To worship navgrahas, bathe properly, and sit facing in the east direction, where the mind is calm and composed. Prepare a small altar, with a clean cloth, light nine lamps, of each navgraha, offer them flowers, incense and water. Each Navgraha has their own mantra, chant each 108 times using a rosary with focus and sincerity. Conclude your worship all while expressing a heartfelt gratitude.

5/5

Symbolism and cultural absorption

Each of the Navagraha gods, represents personal traits of the person such as Surya represents energy and leadership, Chandra, feelings; Mangala, strength bravery; Buddha, speech and discipline; Guru, spirituality and wisdom; Shukra, worldly prosperity and love; Shani, spiritual growth and discipline; Rahu and Ketu, spiritual regeneration and detachment. Their presence penetrates Hindu society, i.e., weekly days dedicated to some of the planets, building temples, and daily worship. The Navagraha are a crucial bridge between human beings and the universe, a projection of Hinduism's cosmopolitan vision towards life as existing in co-existence with universal forces.
