Gods and Goddesses worshipped in the Hindu religion

Looking up to Gods and Goddesses, and the divine force when things go wrong is the most natural reaction for most people. A divine power, someone who can take away all our sorrows and difficulties and help us emerge victorious-- what else do we want? And so, to please these divine powers and make sure we get their blessings, certain days of the week are dedicated to them in the Hindu religion. From Monday being dedicated to Shiv ji and Lakshmi mata or Maa Santoshi being worshipped on Friday, here we list down the Gods and Goddesses worshipped on each day of the week as per the Hindu religion. Read on to know more:

Monday for Lord Shiva

Monday is the day of Lord Shiva. We fondly call him ‘Devadhi Dev’ or the God of the Gods in Hinduism. Shiva is the symbol of great strength and spiritual power and yet he gives all his devotees a peaceful calmness. Devotees seek his blessings for strength, courage, and inner peace. As the destroyer of evil and the God who brings transformation in the world and to his devotees' lives, Lord Shiva is the symbol of the cycle of creation, preservation, and destruction, all in himself.

Tuesday for Lord Hanuman

Tuesday is dedicated to Lord Hanuman who is also known as ‘Sankat Mochan’ or the one who wards off any type of problems or calamities. He is known for his great devotion to Lord Rama, his bravery, incredible strength, celibate nature, and his loyalty. It is believed that worshiping Hanuman ji on Tuesdays brings courage and protection from harm. People seek his blessings for strength to face the obstacles and hurdles in life. Plus, it is also said that Hanuman ji is the fastest answerer of any problems for he lives closest to Earth as a Chiranjeevi (immortal).

Wednesday for Ganesh ji

In Hinduism, Wednesday is devoted to worshipping Ganesh ji who is the remover of obstacles and is believed to bring good fortune and luck to his devotees along with health and financial abundance. On Wednesdays, devotees seek his blessings for success and wisdom in their lives and the new paths they embark on. Ganesh ji is a symbol of intellect and prosperity and it is important to seek his guidance and support through the challenges of life.

Thursdays are for Lord Vishnu and a Guru

Thursday, known as ‘Guruvar’ in Hindi, is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the protector, and preserver of the universe in Hinduism, and the Guru or teacher of your life. Lord Vishnu has the role of maintaining the order of this universe and righteousness and our teachers too help us do the same in our lives. Many people worship Vishnu ji on Thursdays seeking his blessings for stability and prosperity in their lives.

6/8

Friday for Santoshi Mata

Fridays are dedicated to Santoshi Maa who is considered to be the daughter of Lord Ganesh. The Friday fast or ‘Shukravaar vrat’ is for Santoshi Mata and devotees abstain from eating any sort of non-vegetarian food or anything sour in nature. After the Friday prayers, devotees take the ‘Gud-Chana’ prasad and open their fast.

Fridays are also for Goddess Mahalakshmi, wife of Lord Vishnu. She is the giver of wealth, prosperity, and auspiciousness. People worship Mahalakshmi ji seeking blessings for material and spiritual wealth.

7/8

Saturdays for Shani Dev

Saturdays are dedicated to Shani Dev, the God who is associated with justice and discipline. Shani Dev is one God who people are afraid of but also worship with utmost focus. On Saturday, people honour Shani Dev and seek his protection from hardships. It is also said that praying to Shani Dev ensures that you have a stable life and that your karmic balance is right.

Sundays for Surya Dev

Sunday marks the day of Surya Dev or the Sun God. It is said that worshipping Surya Dev helps people be more radiant in life just like him and maintain composure and calm through tough times. Sundays are dedicated to praying to him and asking him for vitality, strength, and positivity. Through prayers and early morning water offerings, people absorb his divine energy which helps maintain spiritual and physical well-being.
