Most people clean and organize their homes regularly, but according to Vastu Shastra, the energy of a house is influenced not just by cleanliness but also by the kind of objects kept inside it. In many Indian households, certain items are believed to attract stress, negativity, financial problems, or constant disturbance if they remain in the home for too long.
While some people follow Vastu strictly and others see it more as a traditional belief system, many still avoid keeping certain things indoors because of the emotional and symbolic energy attached to them. Interestingly, several of these items are commonly found lying around in modern homes without much thought.
Here are five things that Vastu experts often advise people to remove or avoid keeping at home.

A clock represents movement and progress. According to Vastu beliefs, a broken clock or a watch that has stopped working symbolizes stagnant energy and delays in life. Many people keep old clocks simply because they forget about them or plan to repair them later, but Vastu suggests they should either be fixed immediately or removed from the house.
Keeping non-working clocks is believed to create an atmosphere of stuck energy, especially when it comes to career growth, finances, and important decisions.

Plants are usually linked with freshness, growth, and positivity. But when plants dry out completely or die, they are believed to bring dull and negative energy into the home. Vastu recommends removing dead plants as soon as possible instead of letting them sit in balconies, corners, or window areas.
Even artificial flowers covered in dust for long periods are often considered inauspicious because they create a lifeless environment inside the house.

Mirrors hold special importance in Vastu because they are believed to reflect and multiply energy. A cracked mirror or broken glass item is often associated with stress, conflict, and disturbed peace at home.
Many people continue using slightly damaged mirrors without realizing that Vastu considers them unlucky. Broken glass objects, chipped decorative items, or cracked photo frames are also believed to affect the overall energy of the space and should ideally be replaced.

One of the most common Vastu suggestions is to avoid storing unnecessary clutter for years. Old clothes, damaged electronics, unused utensils, broken furniture, and piles of random items are believed to block positive energy flow inside the house.
Apart from Vastu, many people also feel mentally lighter after decluttering their homes. Spaces filled with unused objects can often make rooms feel heavy, crowded, and stressful without people even noticing it.

According to Vastu beliefs, torn or badly damaged footwear should not be kept inside the house for long periods. Footwear is connected with movement and daily life, and keeping worn-out or unusable shoes is believed to attract financial struggles and unnecessary stress.
Many people store old shoes in corners, balconies, or under beds, thinking they might use them later, but Vastu suggests removing footwear that is no longer wearable. A cluttered shoe area near the entrance is also believed to affect the positive energy entering the home.
