Temples of Shiva

The 4 prahars of Mahashivratri are now over, and countless devotees are disappointed over not visiting a temple of Lord Shiva on the occasion. But Mahashivratri or not, to a Shiva devotee, the energies of Lord Shiva can be felt everywhere, everyday. From the spiritual atmosphere that has covered the temples, to the beautiful ‘shringar’ of Lord Shiva and Shivlings, the energy is infinite and positive through and through.

And so, if you couldn't visit a Lord Shiva temple on the night or day of Mahashivratri, here we mention 5 of the many famous temples of Lord Shiva that have a positive energy to them all year round.

2/6

Mallikarjuna temple

A temple dedicated to both Shiva and Shakti is the Mallikarjuna temple in Andhra Pradesh. The Mallikarjuna is not just a Jyotirling, but also a Shaktipeeth, which makes the power and energy of the space multiply and devotees can feel a strong presence of Lord Shiva and Maa Shakti in the temple.
This temple is defined as the convergence of energies, the divine masculine and the divine feminine, and praying here does not just give the protection and strength granted by Lord Shiva, but also the peace, health, calm, and fierceness by the Shakti.

Kashi Vishwanath temple

Located in Kashi, the land and city of Lord Shiva himself, is the Kashi Vishwanath temple, famous also for the Kashi corridor. It is believed that those who visit Kashi Vishwanath and attend the aartis, from Mangala aarti to Shayan aarti, are blessed by Lord Shiva, and they leave the temple with a new, more positive version of themselves.
The temple’s golden spires and the sacred Ganga Aarti at the ghats increase the divine aura of the temple space.

4/6

Mahakaleshwar temple

The Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain is one of the most positive and powerful temples of Lord Shiva in India. The shivling here is believed to be a Swayambhu, one that manifests itself, and is famous for the Bhasm aarti conducted here. In the Bhasm aarti, the priests cover the Shivling with sacred ash, post which Lord Shiva is adorned with a new face with flowers, leaves, and more.
It is also said that praying to Lord Shiva here brings peace, protection, and much more in life.

5/6

Baidyanath temple

A temple with immense and infinite energy and healing powers is the Baidyanath temple, in Jharkhand. It is considered to be one of the most sacred Jyotirlingas and people who are ill and cannot find any treatment in hospitals, go to Baidyanath, for Lord Shiva is present there as a ‘baidya’, or healer.
The devotees of Lord Shiva believe that visiting the temple can cure all kinds of ailments and bless them with well-being.

6/6

Kedarnath temple

Very few people could reach Kedarnath temple until a few years ago, and the trek is rather rigorous even today.

Located high up in Uttarakhand, the Kedarnath temple tests devotees’ will and energy before they have a darshan of Lord Shiva, and it is also one of the Char Dham pilgrimage sites. It is said that when the Pandavas ventured out of the kingdom after the war of Kurukshetra, they sought Lord Shiva’s apology and blessing. But Lord Shiva hid from them, only to be identified by Bhim, and thus a temple of Lord Shiva was constructed here by the Pandavas.
