How to deal with a jealous colleague

Here's what you must do

There is no workplace you won't find a jealous co-worker. The level of toxicity may vary but there will always be a person who has issues with you for whatever reason. You could be performing well, having better contacts, they feel the boss is nice to you, you dress well, your package is more, it could be anything! But how do you deal with such a person at work without losing your cool? Here are a few tactics that may help you in dealing with a jealous colleague.

2/6

Silence

If you have some amazing piece of news, you were given a raise or anything that may indicate bragging or showing off, keep quiet. Share it outside with people you know will rejoice with you. When you do so in the office premises, people tend to judge you as an arrogant person. So when you are quiet, no one can say anything.

3/6

Do not take it personally

Jealousy is basically a reflection of a person’s own insecurities. It has got nothing to do with you in reality. So the next time if someone is being all jealous of you, do not take it personally because it is their issue not yours.

4/6

Sharing

Here sharing means if it is something to do with a skill you learnt and you think you can share it with people in your team, then do it. This is what a good team player would do. There is no loss so why not?

5/6

Focus on the good ones

Always remember that you cannot please every person out there. So, it is best to focus on the good people around you. Give importance to the person who values your opinion. Haters will always be haters.

6/6

Quit apologizing

Never say sorry for something you did not do. You achieved something so be happy about it, don’t underplay it and be apologetic about it. Just don’t show it off. Take the congratulatories, the good words from your people who are rolling them out and then continue with your work or task at hand. If someone is jealous, it is their problem. It is your achievement so why should you not be proud of yourself?
