High-energy dogs for people who have active lifestyle

It is often said that a dog is man's best friend, and rightly so. However, not all dog breeds have the same energy levels. While some dogs are born athletes who love to run and engage in high-energy sports, others prefer regular walks and enjoy being lap dogs. If you are someone who has an active lifestyle or would like to have one, or have kids who want a companion for play, and you are looking for a suitable pet dog, then check out this list of some high-energy dogs that need lots of exercise daily:

2/6

Border Collie

One of the most intelligent dog breed, Border Collies are also highly energetic. They were originally bred to herd sheep, and so they have high stamina and agility. Due to this, these dogs need intense daily exercise in the form of long walks and runs. Without enough exercise, Border Collie can develop behavioural issues like chewing or obsessive habits. They also need mental stimulation, so puzzle toys and obedience training are a must for them.

3/6

Labrador Retriever

One of the most popular pet dog breeds in the world, Labrador Retrievers are friendly, loyal, and full of energy. They were originally bred as working dogs to retrieve game (hence named so), Labs need regular exercise to stay fit and calm. Considering their high-energy levels, a simple walk isn’t enough for Labs. Instead, they love swimming, running, and games like fetch which keeps them physically and mentally active. Labs love to eat and so they are prone to weight gain; this can be avoided by daily physical activity. Remember, a bored Lab can become hyper or chew things they shouldn’t and so daily activity is a must for them.

4/6

Siberian Husky

Siberian Huskies were bred to pull sleds over long distances in cold climates; no wonder then that have amazing endurance. These dogs need a lot of physical activity and space to run to stay happy and healthy. A daily walk isn't enough for them— they need intense exercise like jogging, hiking, or even pulling weight carts. Do note, Huskies are also known for being escape artists, especially when under-stimulated. Without proper exercise, they can become destructive or howl excessively.

5/6

Belgian Malinois

Belgian Malinois are a popular breed among police and military forces due to their high strength, stamina, and intelligence. Belgian Malinois are working dogs— they love having a job to do! And so, these dogs need more than an hour of intense physical activity daily, like agility, advanced obedience training, or running to stay happy and healthy. They also need mental challenges otherwise they can become restless and even aggressive.

6/6

Jack Russell Terrier

Despite their small size, Jack Russell Terrier are high energy dogs. They were originally bred for fox hunting, and so they are fast, fearless, and full of life. Jack Russell Terriers need a lot of daily exercise to burn off energy. They're also very intelligent, so mental stimulation is equally important for them. Without enough activity, Jack Russells can become noisy, mischievous, or even destructive.
