Pet dogs breeds suitable for India

Are you living in India and thinking of getting a pet dog for yourself or your family? Well, there are quite a few things one should keep in mind while choosing a pet dog in India especially as many people dream of owning an exotic breed. However, not all foreign breeds can survive in India’s hot and humid climate. And so, it’s important to select breeds that are not only unique but also adaptable to local weather conditions. Here we list some such exotic pet dog breeds that are suitable for Indian climate:

2/6

Boxer

Originally from Germany, Boxers are muscular, energetic, and friendly dogs known for their loyalty and playfulness. Despite being an exotic breed, Boxers can adapt well to warm climates like India's, thanks to their short coat and high energy levels. Some of their basic needs include: access to shaded areas, cool drinking water, and regular exercise. Boxers are great with kids and make excellent low-maintenance pets for Indian homes.

3/6

Doberman Pinscher

The Doberman Pinscher, known for its intelligence and guarding instincts, is another exotic breed that is suitable for India's climate. Their sleek, short coat helps them manage heat better than other dog breeds that have long hair. They’re alert, loyal, and quick learners, making them ideal as guard dogs for families. Dobermans require daily exercise and mental stimulation but are relatively easy to groom.

4/6

Dalmatian

Dalmatians are known for their unique black spots which makes them look uniquely beautiful. Dalmatians are not just attractive but also well-suited to Indian temperatures because of their short coat, which helps them manage heat. Dalmatians large, active and social dogs that love to be around people. However, these exotic dogs need ample space to move around and so they're suited for farms or huge Indian homes.

5/6

Indian Mastiff (Bully Kutta)

While the Indian Mastiff (also called Bully Kutta) is technically native, its rare and majestic appearance often make people think it's exotic. The Indian Mastiff is known for its strength, loyalty, and imposing look, and they are well suited for the Indian climate. But, this powerful breed should be handled by experienced dog owners as they are large and dominant dogs. It’s protective by nature and makes an excellent guard dog.

6/6

Great Dane

Fondly called gentle giants, Great Dane adapt well to Indian climates, particularly in moderate to warm regions. Despite their massive size, they are friendly, patient, and good with children-- which makes them a great addition to Indian families. And their short coat makes grooming easy and helps them cope with heat. However, they should be kept indoors during the hottest parts of the day and given plenty of water.
