Why I said YES to an open relationship!

This is my story...

If you would have asked me 2 years ago, what do you think about being in an open relationship? I would have resented and cringed at the thought of it. But now, 2 years later, here I am in an open relationship with a stranger while my husband is well aware of my adventurous streaks. The amount of excitement of getting my needs satisfied by another man other than my husband makes me feel free and alive, in a twisted way.

My husband agreed to my impulsive wants, but I feel it’s only because being in an open relationship will also give him an opportunity to be with other women. But honestly, I never thought I would be the non-monogamous kind. I feel I have come to a point in life where I want to experiment with things but it is only because I have to a few realisations. Here’s why I chose to be in an open relationship.

2/5

We have good communication between us

I was able to be in an open relationship only because my husband and I communicate really well with each other. Navigating this relationship requires my husband and I to talk to each other very transparently and honestly. If there are lies, secrets and mysteries between us, it’s over.

3/5

There’s trust in our marriage

Our marriage is built on trust and honesty. I have never lied to my husband about my intentions. I have been clear about why I wanted to try out an open relationship. My husband has also been clear about what he has been up to or what adventurous streaks he has been indulging in. We both feel pretty comfortable sharing everything with each other.

4/5

We both were intrigued by the idea of non-monogamy

We were able to be in an open relationship only because we both were on the same page when it came to being with different partners. We both wanted to understand the concept of non-monogamy and the effect it would have on our marriage. Once we communicated our desires to each other, we were able to go past monogamy.

5/5

Our sex lives don’t match Our sex lives don’t match

It’s a blatant truth. Our sex lives don’t match at all. Our libidos and kinks are very different. No matter how much we tried, we both weren’t able to enjoy each other’s sex preferences at all. We loved each other dearly but sex with each other was purely horrible. So, it only made sense to turn towards others to fulfil our sexual needs.
