All you need to know about Rudrakshas

From time immemorial, Rudraksha is known to be one of the most precious beads, owing to its divine healing powers. It is said that only those who have the blessings of lord Shiva get the opportunity to wear it. The meaning of the word "Rudraksha" is the eyes of Rudra (Shiva) and his tears (Aksha). The story of the origin of this spiritual bead explains why it is known to be the blessing of Shiva himself.

Rudraksha is naturally a dry fruit which grows on the Rudraksha tree. A spiritual Rudra mala used for praying and meditation typically consists of 108 beads. These can be found in varied appearances i.e., from 1 Mukhi to 27 Mukhi. Anyone who wears these beads has the blessings of all the three divine lords i.e., Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh with him.

History of Rudraksha

According to a Hindu religious text there was a Demon known as Tripurasura who had divine energy and power. Due to these unnatural energies, he became proud and started to trouble deities and sages. On seeing his immoral actions, the gods prayed to Lord Shiva to kill Tripurasura. Lord Shiva closed his eyes and meditated for over 1000 years to acquire a powerful weapon- Agora, to kill the demon. After acquiring the weapon, he killed Tripurasura and after the victory, tears fell from his eyes on the earth. Wherever his tears fell, the Rudraksha tree grew. Hence, the power of his tears is what resonates divinity in the beads.
