On October 2, popular South actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu announced her separation from Naga Chaitanya and this has since then brought despair among many of her fans who loved the two together. What came as a surprise to many was when Samantha reportedly refused to accept the Rs. 200 crores one-time alimony from Chaitanya. Samantha has been admired thoroughly for her decision to not take the alimony because it is a known fact that she can support herself. And so, in this context, let’s take a look at some of the reasons why women refuse to take alimony from their partners.

2/5

Independent stature

Strong, independent working women are refusing to take alimony because they are confident of supporting themselves. These women believe that they earn enough to support themselves and their families. They don’t want to take the money of their ex-husbands to get ahead in life.

3/5

Cheating

Women may refuse to take alimony because they may be holding a grudge against their ex-husbands for indulging in infidelity. Cheating remains to be one of the most common reasons why divorces occur. And so, either out of pure hatred or respect for themselves, women refuse alimony after their divorce.

4/5

Fraudulent business

Another reason why women may refuse alimony is if their husband is involved in any fraudulent business. They are aware of the fact that the money is illegal and that it may cause her problems further down the road. And of course, the woman may not feel any compulsion of having to associate herself with the problems after the divorce, especially if she feels liberated and free from it.

5/5

Cut off all ties

Receiving alimony from an ex-husband may mean that there is a tie that still exists between the former spouses. And refusing alimony suggests the end of the marriage completely. It is also entirely the woman’s choice if she wants or doesn’t want to receive alimony from the ex-husband.

This is purely a PR stunt. I cannot believe that a woman can ever refuse alimony. Woman today go to extreme extent to get alimony, many a times at the cost of impoverishing the husband.
