Psychological reasons why people feel insecure

Being insecure with our individualities, our lives, personal relationships, work, affects us and the people around us a lot. It induces poison in our heads and we tend to act out to cover those insecurities. But what if we can get to the root cause of it all and work on them? Read up on these reasons that cause insecurity in a human being and try to make your life better by untangling those threads.

2/6

Bad experiences

A major cause for a person to gradually become insecure is his/her share of bad experiences. They could be around broken trust, cheating, disturbed childhood, traumatising episodes in school, feeling of not being loved enough, ignorance, etc. A sort of a fear sets in no matter how strong you try to project yourself. Even in instances where a narcissist person has been putting you down all the time, you become unsure of yourself.

3/6

Emotionally dependent

If you were too attached to someone and you lost him/her, whether due to a demise or a breakup, you tend to break down and it can lead to insecurity. In another scenario, if you become too dependent on a person then even some required space from his/her end makes you insecure. This leads to possessiveness and jealousy.

4/6

Trust issues

When someone cheats on you or betrays you, you tend to harbour insecurities. Even something you saw at home or outside as a child can live with you and affect your relationships as an adult.

5/6

Body image

Body shaming is one huge cause for insecurities. When you are ridiculed for the way you look at any given point in not just your growing up years but in adulthood as well, then it can lead to insecurity. It is very important that you try to become comfortable in your own skin and not let others' judgments, no matter who they are, get to you. Even something like lack of intimacy can make you insecure.

6/6

Failure

If you are someone who grew up amongst over achievers and your siblings make much more money than you, then perhaps a fear of failure has seeped in? Were you told that you are not good enough? Did they compare you with others? If any or all of these have happened in your life, you must take therapy. It always helps in dealing with your ghosts.
