Married couples share their tips on how to stay in love forever

Marriage is a complicated institution. A couple has to work their way through burdens, responsibilities, choices and if that’s not enough, marital problems and disputes make their way into the life of the couples. And at difficult times, it becomes even harder to believe in the sacred bond and keep loving each other. Married couples have it rough. But again, love keeps the bond alive as it is the only thing that transcends all kinds of obstacles in life. To make you believe in the power of love again, here are some married couples who share their tips on how to keep love in marriage strong and forever.

Struggling through mental health issues

“I was suffering through a severe case of anxiety and depression when I was in my mid-thirties. I stayed distant from everyone, especially from my wife because I didn’t want to cause her any trouble for what I was feeling. I stopped indulging in any social gathering and when finally my wife confronted me, I let out everything. And that day onwards, her presence made a powerful impact in my recovery as she stood by me like a rock, and helped me get over it with understanding and love. That’s what it’s all about: support.”

Admitting the mistakes

“When you’re wrong, learn to admit your mistakes and when you know you’re right, firmly state that you’re right in your perspective. Keeping things clear in a marriage is how you and your spouse can keep it going. At one point, I stopped telling my husband how I felt and then, after a huge fight, we sorted out our fight at that point in time. And since then, we both have never failed to tell each other what we both felt.”

Honesty with each other

“Committing only one thing to each other can be a huge help in retaining a marriage. My husband and I promised to never tell each other any lies, no matter what we did. And that got us struggling through many problems and flights, but not once did we leave each other’s hand all this while.”

Conflicts of the good kind

“My father had given me this lesson before looking for suitable partners-always get your partner angry at least once so that you can see how they react and try to solve the problem. And I did exactly that and found my partner for life. I sure had problems with suitors but Rishav was gentle, mature and kind. He sought love to be the most important thing while solving a fight and this has kept our marriage quite strong.”

Similar cultures

“Similar backgrounds and cultures play a huge role in keeping a couple together. Realistically, there are fewer fights and disapprovals when it comes to going to social gatherings or attending a certain cultural norm. My mother fixed me up with my current wife who is from the same hometown. And besides that, my wife and I respect each other’s opinions and choices very much. We never point fingers and that has kept a lot of fights at bay.”
