Is your partner afraid of commitment? Here's what you should do

1/7

Are you dating a commitment freak?

While most of us love the idea of settling down, the concept of commitment do makes some people jittery. It, perhaps, becomes very complicated when both the partners have different perspectives of commitment and struggle to find a middle ground. In case, you think you are dating a commitment-phobic partner, here’s what you need to do

2/7

Talk!

The very first thing you can do is to have a candid-yet-honest conversation with your partner. Instead of making random assumptions, get to know your lover’s real expectations and the relationship. Consider it a red flag for your bond only when you both are not on the same page emotionally and pragmatically.

3/7

Do not panic

So your doubt got confirmed and your lover does not see this relationship the way you do. Relax! There could be a possibility that he or she is not afraid of commitment, but only uncertain about future. Simply lecturing or arguing with your partner won’t give you a permanent solution. The key is to not panic and jump the gun before thinking about the situation logically.

4/7

Think but not brood

It’s time you sit back and think (not over think) what makes you partner afraid of commitment. Is it because of some ugly experience in the past? Does he or she have something else, like career, further studies, on their priority list? Or, is this relationship a fling or something casual one for them?

5/7

Give your partner personal space

Make sure you don’t push your partner on this subject or try to convince them to change their perspective. You simply can’t. Period. You need to respect his or her point of view and personal space. In fact, it’s wise to give them some time to rethink about their actual needs from the relationship, and bring up this topic again after some time when you are ready.

6/7

Set your boundaries

Sometimes, you need to keep your emotions aside and stop clinging on to any false hopes. See if your partner needs more time and is willing to commit to the relationship in the coming months. Have a clear-cut conversation and share what you are looking for in this relationship. Again, don’t assume he or she would have a change of heart (and logics) someday in life. Do not, at any cost, compromise on your true needs till then. Trust us, it would do more harm than good.

7/7

Know when to step back

Remember, nothing is worth your self-worth. When you lover is pretty clear about his or her needs and priorities in life, so should be you. Your relationship would never head in the right direction if both of you are looking for different things. Maybe it’s the best to take a step back before you end up getting hurt and things get messier between the both of you. If your partner really wants to date you, he or she would always find a way to make it work.
