How to react when someone BODY SHAMES you!

Don't take nonsense!

Too fat, too thin, too tall, too short, lose weight, chubby cheeks, etc are just some of the judgements that are passed by folks around us. They somehow feel it is their right because of the “freedom of speech” factor. But no! No one has the right to put you through any nonsense like that. People will always try to bring you down because in the world we are living in today, humans are disturbed and becoming negative by the day. If you do not already have a thick skin or feel it is difficult for you then instead of feeling hurt and crying, you do the below mentioned things, react that way and let people know that you really do not care! Here are some tips on how to react when people including your own folks are body shaming you!

2/4

When strangers comment

If people who are not related to you comment on your body, firstly be confident about your own body and then if ignoring is not your forte, then say “I like it the way it is, thank you”, or you can say that it is none of their business. You can also call the person out but keep your tone in check. You can say “I do not appreciate you commenting on my xyz. It is my body, my choice”. But, if that person seems to be an aggressive personality, it is best to ignore it because such people love creating drama and why should you waste time?

3/4

Body shaming at home

Many of us have culprits at home. Our own parents, siblings or other relatives feel it is okay to call you fat. To deal with them, you really have to love yourself first and not let it get to you. As a retort, you keep your words clean by saying “I like the way I am, thanks for the concern”. If it's someone you think you can educate, get them a boo on body shaming. Many people do not even realise that it is wrong until told! Another way is that you let them know that you do not appreciate negative comments and that they must not say it in the future.

4/4

Body shaming online

The internet can be one vicious world. People really do not have anything else to do and online hatred has become very common. Vicarious pleasure is what they get and if you get sucked into that, you are done! First step here should be that you do not respond to them. Do not call them names either because we all know that no one is safe today and people have become walking dynamites of late. If you really want to respond, use sarcasm! Not on anyone else, but on yourself! When you joke about yourself, like comedy queen Bharti does, the body shamers have no meat to thrive on!

Alway remember that ignorance is bliss as long as your health is not affected. If you think it is important for you to lose weight then stop explaining to others that you are working on it. Lose weight for yourself, not others!
