Should you or should you not record yourself in action?

Recently, a private video of Bhojpuri actress Shilpi Raj has been making rounds on the internet. It includes a tape of the actress in a compromising position with her boyfriend. The leaked MMS has been shared and reshared on various platforms and since then, the actress has come forward, asking citizens to refrain from sharing her leaked video. This can indeed be a very distressing situation for a person, especially if they’re thrust into the limelight. And this begs us to come to this question-Should you or should you not record yourself in your intimate private moments?

To understand this situation more intricatrely, we got in touch with 2 experts and asked them to comment on this matter.

Take a look at this expert opinion

According to mental wellness and relationship expert, Dr Rachna Khanna Singh, "It is a personal choice. There’s a large percentage of people who do film such a video with their partners. The only thing one should be aware of is the safety factor. There have been many cases where people have leaked their partner’s pictures or videos when the relationship goes ugly or to threaten their partner. So remember, first to be super safe when you do this and second, do it with a safe partner whom you trust completely.

As for, if you should or should, it’s a choice. A lot of people do it because they want something new or something exciting in their life. This isn’t something they do on a daily day-to-day basis but it’s to add spice and break the monotony of the relationship. Sexual experimentation is also a huge thing where people try different things, so as to make their sex life more exciting. It can be great for stimulating your sex life. But it totally depends on the couple. But this should work well for both the partners. Consent, safety and agreement to do it together. Both partners should agree to do it because there are many cases where people film the activity without their partner’s knowledge. That is completely wrong."

Our 2nd expert also relays her opinion

Relationship expert Jigyasa Uniyal echoes Dr Rachna's thoughts. "It is an individual's choice to record his/her private moments. But one has to be very cautious that such videos aren't made available on social media platforms because we live in a conservative society where 'sex and PDA' are still a taboo and these things are considered to be very personal. So, to avoid the repercussions - character assassination, namecalling etc. I would strongly advise people to refrain from capturing the videos of their private moments and just enjoy them 'privately'!"

Why couples do it

Recording a private video of yourself and your partner, by all means, should be your personal matter. There is nothing morally wrong in wanting to take a video of you and your partner as a keepsake. Filming a video is also an expression of your love. In fact, many couples look forward to making a video of their own, while making love because firstly, this is a very unusual yet interesting way to keep the fire and sensuality in the relationship alive and secondly, it can help grow your and your partner’s confidence, by watching your actions on the screen.

5/5

But there should be some rules

TRUST. That’s what is required when you and your partner plan on making a private video or sex tape together. You both should trust each other enough so that only you both can see the tape together. That trust should never be violated in any form. In short, the video should never reach a third person.
