Safe steps to online dating

With the advent of technology, internet and social media, online dating has become the new norm amongst people from different backgrounds. While approaching a person and/or expressing love was once a difficult task, it has become easy and exciting over time. However, everything in this world has its own pros and cons. That includes dating on a virtual platform too. From creating fake accounts to trolling people with the help of those fake accounts, the digital space has become a dangerous place for communication, especially when you’re looking for to build a relationship with. That being said, there are many things you should be aware about before stepping into online dating. To help you achieve that, here are 7 ways you can make your dating experience safe and secure.

2/8

Do not reveal too much about yourself, especially where you live

Although online dating is convenient and exciting, it has its own vices. While it may give you a romantic feel, but there is no reason why you should reveal each and everything about yourself to the person you have never met at all. You must make sure that the person you’re talking to is an actual person, before giving him/her your personal details.

3/8

Before meeting in person, try and decipher them on the phone

If possible, before scheduling a meeting, you must try and learn as much as you can about the person on the other side. There’s a lot you can tell about the person from the way he/she texts or talks. Therefore, talk to them several times before meeting in person.

4/8

Make it a point to meet in public

Never ever meet someone new at a private space. It is important that you plan the meeting at a public area, so as to be safe and secure. You never know what kind of a creep the stranger may be.

5/8

Wherever you plan to meet, disclose your location to someone

If you and your online partner plan to meet, then you must give your location to someone you can trust, so that in case something goes wrong, at least one person knows your whereabouts.

6/8

Arrange your own transportation

Do not accept offers of transportation from the person you’re going to meet. It is always a safe choice to arrange your own mode of transport back and forth from the location of the meeting.

7/8

Do not go overboard on your first meeting

Keep in mind to take it easy on the first date. While it may seem thrilling and exciting, there is no need to let your guard down and go overboard. You may be taken by surprise or may feel a bit insecure, but what is important is that you are safe at the end of the day.

8/8

Be alarmed and always remember the repercussions of ‘online dating’

One thing you must keep in mind is the repercussions you will face due to online dating. It is not obvious, but there is no harm in being alarmed and prepared for the worst of situations. That does not mean you should step back from possibilities, but it is always important that you take proper precautions and be alert.
