Romancing the rain

“Let the rain kiss you. Let the rain beat upon your head with silver liquid drops. Let the rain sing you a lullaby.” These lines by American poet and author Langston Hughes are a reminder of how romantic the rain can be. Undeniably, there is something about monsoon that turns lovers into hopeless romantics. The first shower, the aroma rising from the earth as tiny drops of water touch its parched surface and piping hot food—there’s nothing not to love about the things that come with monsoon. However, incessant rains can sometimes get a bit overwhelming, especially when people run out of ideas to enjoy it. So, we bring to you seven romantic date ideas to enjoy during the rainy season.

2/8

Bring out those board games

When was the last time you played Scrabble or Monopoly with your partner? Thanks to our smartphones and hectic schedule, those once favourite games are perhaps gathering dust in some corner of the house. Isn’t this the right time to revive those old memories with your partner? To make it a romantic affair, you can always introduce new rules. For example, every time you lose, you will have to do anything your partner demands. Be prepared for passionate kisses or to shed some clothes!

3/8

Rain dance

Put on your dancing shoes and head outside. You need not necessarily travel for miles to find a suitable spot for a rain dance with your partner. How about the terrace? To make it a romantic one, you can dress up for the occasion and play your favourite songs in the background. We can not guarantee that you wouldn’t catch a cold or ruin your clothes. But that’s a small price to pay for love!

4/8

Create a ‘no electricity’ night

Remember those days of the early 80s when there used to be load shedding and an entire village or city was enveloped in darkness? There is something romantic about dark rainy nights, isn’t it? You can switch off all the lights and if you want, the air conditioner too. Open the windows and let the cool breeze do it’s magic as you sit down for a candlelit dinner with your partner.

5/8

Book reading or movie sessions

Sometimes, it’s not possible to step outside when it rains too heavily. You can make the most out of your indoor time by reading out loud to each other or watching the movies you have missed in the past. To make it more romantic you can play a little game of ‘role play’. You can enact with your partner a romantic scene from your favourite movie. Or, after you read a steamy scene from a book, you can recreate the scene with your partner in your bedroom.

6/8

How about a long drive?

Remember, old is gold. And if you want to get romantic in the rains, you can try out some old and tested ideas like going on a long drive. But make sure to pack enough hot tea and snacks!

7/8

Soul food

Can a romantic date be complete without good food? Instead of ordering food from outside or going to a restaurant, why don’t you try preparing some soul food at home? Instead of only one partner cooking for the other, both can wear the chef's hat and spend some constructive time in the kitchen. And then have a nice and cozy candlelit dinner at home afterwards.

8/8

‘Dolce far niente’

When was the last time you had spent the whole day doing sweet nothings? There is an Italian phrase called ‘dolce far niente’, which means the sweetness of doing nothing. Monsoon brings the perfect opportunity to embrace the charm and beauty of doing nothing. How about spending the entire day in bed? You will realize the charm of being in bed with your partner during the monsoons only when you try it. Don’t forget to order a pizza or your favourite drink.
