5 Things you forgot if you had a TOXIC PARENT

1/6

Let it go

Many actions of your toxic parents eventually make you who you are no matter how much you try to control it. However, there will also be many things that you will not remember if you had a parent like that. You revisit those things when you are raising your own kid, during the process. These things ruined your childhood but you would not want those to trickle down on your kids too. Scroll down and keep these things in mind that you ought to work on because you were not privy to them sadly.

2/6

Giving compliments

Toxic parents have their own complexes and they do not realise that. In the process, due to this reason they become frugal with compliments. They undermine their kids and therefore your parents did not ever say a positive word to you. You kept trying to please them for that one kudos from them but it all went in vain. So learn from that and do not do the same thing to your own kids.

3/6

Making you feel uncared for

Who does not want to be loved and cared for? Your parents kept their own concerns before you every time! You needed their suggestion but if you did not like it, they would lash out at you. That is all wrong. Do not reverse the parent-child relationship in your case because you will tend to do it with your own kid as it is deeply instilled in you.

4/6

Not feeling relaxed under your own roof

This is a major issue you do not realise until your partner points that out. Toxic parents have this habit of keeping you on your toes for different things, verbally abusing you when you are at home, so much so that you start making your college, studies, friends, anywhere outside home, your happy space. That should never be the case as home means abode, it is not a hostel.

5/6

Isolating you from your friends

Some parents have this issue that whenever they see you laughing and having fun with your friends, they embarrass you and make sure that smile goes away from your face. This makes the friends run away while we are growing up, isolating you, as if you are the property of your parents. This kind of toxicity ruins your mental health.

6/6

Forgetting your individuality

Parents can have that habit of comparing you with other kids and they forget the positives you have. This gives you more complexes in turn and you start doubting your own capabilities. Some parents can also call you ugly because you were complimented instead of them. Don’t give into that… it ruins you. Make sure you do not practice these things with your own children.

Good article covering key points. But.. when you keep adding to every point - DO NOT DO THIS TO YOUR OWN KIDS, its taking it too far. Dont virtue signal. The person who has gone through such toxicity will have issues all theri life if you keep puttin pressure and responsibilities on them. Saying “Just let it go” is easier said than done. Kindly ask experienced people to share instead the author who probably doest get it sitting on their high horse. You forgot to mention self deletion by the kid. Most of such people are men. Facts!
