These couples embody love like no other

When the stories in Indian mythology unfurl, we are faced with a different emotion altogether–how every detail is woven into perfection to let us peek into the lives our ancestors have led before. Even the love stories in Indian mythology show us how love held such an important place in everyone’s lives. And hence, we bring to you the most beautiful love stories of couples from Indian mythology.

2/6

Radha and Krishna

They are one of the most famous couples in our universe. They are known to represent the masculine and feminine parts of God. The both of them deeply loved each other but they did not get married. There are many beliefs that suggest that since their love had no bounds, they had become one entity. And so, they couldn’t marry. But Indian mythology hails them as one of the greatest couples ever.

3/6

Nala and Damayanti

They used to send each other messages through swans, and that’s how their love blossomed. In Damayanti’s swayamvar, she chose Nala and their wedding was a grand one. However, Nala was soon pushed to exile as he had to give up his kingdom due to his gambling problems. He was separated from Damayanti but in the end, their happy reunion reminds us of the sacrifices and patience a person can have to be with their one, true love.

4/6

Vishwamitra and Menaka

Lord Indra had sent the beautiful nymph Menaka to distract Sage Vishwamitra from doing his tapasya because Indra feared that he would lose his power due to Vishwamitra’s powerful tapasya. However, Menaka falls in love with him and lastly, she confesses her love to the sage. In an act of honesty and truth, she lets go of her love as she is cursed to never meet the sage again. She never set out to destroy the man but she ended up loving him.

5/6

Savitri and Satyavan

Savitri, the princess of Madra chooses to marry Satyavan, the exiled and ill-fated king of Balwa. She chose to be with him even though he was blind and it was also believed that he would die. After a year, the god of death, Yama comes to take away Satyavan’s soul. Savitri pleads to Yama but he says he cannot bring him back but he will grant her three wishes. And so, Savitri wishes that her father-in-law be able to see his hundred grandchildren play in the garden. And so, impressed Yama brings Satyavan back to life. This proves that their love triumphed among obstacles and problems.

6/6

Kama and Rati

To defeat the demon Tarakasura, Lord Shiva had to bear a son but at the time when he had lost his wife, Sati, he went into a meditative state. The lords had then instructed the God of lust, sensuality and love, Kama to shoot arrows of lust into Shiva. Angered by this intrusion, Shiva opened his third eye and burned Kama. Rati, the wife of Kama was devastated by this. However, Shiva realised his mistake and said that he’ll bring back Kama to life but in a bodiless form. However, Kama and Rati’s love extended to generations as they were later reincarnated to be married once again.

Those who are not trained in the Spiritual Science with proper training of scriptures and Philosophy under bonafide teachers in bonafide sampradaya should not write their opinions on these texts. This presents our scriptures in poor light ,shallow understanding and creates misunderstandings in people in general and hurts the sentiments of those who are learning this science seriously, seeing misrepresentations of their ideals in life
