Tips to convince your Indian parents for a love marriage

In India, the concept of love marriage is still a major topic of discussion. The first question a loving couple is asked is whether their marriage is love or arranged? You still have to convince the parents even though it is your life and well, here when you marry, you marry the entire family. So what do you do to convince your parents for a love marriage in the first place? Here is a guide which may help you out.

2/6

Build your rapport with the parents

Kids love their parents but a communication boundary is there in many households. This puts a huge gap between them. If you want to convince your parents for a love marriage, it is time to break down that barrier and become friends with them. Also, spend time with them and remember that your good relationship with them will further lay a solid ground for your partner as well.

3/6

The marriage conversation

Once you have broken the ice between you and your parents, start picking up topics around marriage and settling down. Try to know what they are looking for in their future daughter or son-in-law and lightly negotiate, talking about the traits of your own love. Get to know what is absolutely important for them and what can be worked on. But be smart with your words. We do not want to offend beforehand.

4/6

Take at least one parent into confidence

Now that the conversation has begun, judge and observe which one of your parents is leaning towards what you want. Ys if both can be then nothing like it but if not, you need to take at least one parent into confidence and then introduce your partner to the parent.

5/6

Bringing in the relatives

Now, not all relatives are against a love marriage. Take their help, preferably of those who are older than your own parents whom they respect. It could also be the grandparents or elder uncle and aunt. If luck is by your side, they will be able to convince your parents.

6/6

Introducing the partner

Now comes the most important part where you have to introduce your partner to the family. Do not forget to give a brief idea of each of the family members to the partner. This way, he or she will know how to handle them, and say things accordingly. No, don't lie, just be sober and simple. The same goes for you when you meet his/her family.
