6 things every strong woman should demand in a relationship

Loving the right way!

No matter how loving, caring or understanding your partner is, there are some places where no woman should ever compromise in a relationship. Whether it is making professional choices, standing up for what you feel is right or taking care of your own needs, a strong woman never settles for anything less than what she deserves. Why? Because, you get what you demand and you encourage what you tolerate! Here are six things that are every woman’s prerogative in a relationship.

2/7

Independence

Yes, a relationship is a two-way street and you need to adjust with your partner to make it work. But that does not mean that you lose your independence or have no say in the matters of your own life. Be your own boss and never compromise on your freedom. Do not get unnecessarily dominated, govern your choices; make it clear what you can do and what you cannot. Period!

3/7

Equal work and responsibility

A section of our society still believes that a woman is responsible for managing the entire household to perfection, bringing up kids and taking care of the entire family. Trust us, they are still living in Stone Age, or at least their thought process belongs to that era.

Take charge and demand equal distribution of every responsibility without any inhibition. From doing dishes, cooking meals, washing clothes, changing diapers to cleaning and every other work, make it super clear to your partner that no work can be gender stereotyped. If this notion bruises your partner's ego, you know you are dating a male chauvinist.

4/7

Career

If your partner expects you to leave your job after marriage, change your field because he does not like it or rolls his eyes whenever you return late from work, it’s time you hold a serious discussion with him. Your so-called significant other may leave you at some point in life but your career won’t. It makes you financially independent, improves your skill set, hones your personality and exposes you to the world outside the walls of your home. Whether you want to work or not, it has to be only your choice.

5/7

Love and respect

A key to any successful relationship is mutual love and respect. The foundation of a relationship is bound to shake the moment any of the partners take a step back. If you feel your partner does not treat you with the love and respect you deserve, be strong enough to walk out of the relationship and never look back.

6/7

Personal space

The importance of having some ‘me-time’ cannot be more over-emphasised. It helps you relax, refresh and recharge yourself. Taking some time off from everything makes you brood about things with a fresh perspective and come up with solutions. It could be reading a book with a piping-hot mug of coffee, going on a long drive, a full-body massage, chatting with your bestie or sitting in a room and doing nothing, personal space cannot be traded for anything else in the world and you don’t need to seek anyone’s permission for it.

7/7

Let you be the way you are!

Do you head to a restaurant in your gym wear? Break into an impromptu dance session whenever your favourite song plays? Want to visit Antarctica one day? Cry like a baby after watching an emotional movie or have a set of weird habits? Well, a good partner will happily embrace you for the way you are and won’t expect you to change even a bit to make you a part of their life. In fact, this is something that you don’t even need to demand in a relationship. You need to be the way you are and let the world do all the adjustment, right ladies?
