Signs of bad parenting

2/11

The most difficult task

Parenting is extremely challenging. No matter what you do, you'll always end up blaming yourself and feeling guilty for everything. However, there are times when you will feel very blessed.

3/11

The complex parent-child relationship

As beautiful as the bond between a parent and a child is, it is as conflicting and complex. Parents need to be extremely patient, while children must be taught the same.

4/11

Bad parenting

No parent wants their child to be harm's way. However, sometimes, you may indulge in actions that cause harm to your child physically and emotionally.

5/11

Signs to watch out for

Here are certain signs of bad parenting all parents must be aware about.

6/11

Using punishment

Often parents fail to differentiate between discipline and punishment. The two are not interchangeable. That said, disciplining your child does not necessarily involve punishing them.

7/11

Yelling in public

Never disrespect your child in public. They may feel humiliated and in turn lose their self-confidence.

8/11

Criticizing them for everything

Children need guidance and support, but if you keep criticizing them for the mistakes they may make, they will wither away sooner or later.

9/11

No show of affection

Parents who do not express their love and affection towards their children may be depriving them of all the positivity they deserve.

10/11

Comparing between kids

The worst thing a parent can do is compare their children either with one of their siblings or their friends. This not only gives rise to the jealousy factor, but it also takes a toll on their self esteem.

11/11

Setting a bad example

Parents are the people children look up to for inspiration. That said, if you're unkind, ruthless, critical and disrespectful, they'll pick up the same personality traits.

There are some things that go irreversibly into a child's psyche. His self- esteem and self- definition are based on the image he has in his mind of his family, his home and neighbourhood, his school and teachers, his friends etc. Parents should never criticize any of these in front of the child as that might undermine his self- confidence. He or she may get an inferiority complex.
