Feeling tired and fatigued, mamas-to-be?

Be it the first trimester or the third, the nine months spent housing a little human inside your body is not an easy ride, with pregnancy fatigue and exhaustion lasting for almost all months.

2/7

Why does pregnancy tire your body?

Those who have battled pregnancy fatigue know just how difficult it can feel like. While fatigue and exhaustion can be driven by the ever-changing course of hormones and body making space for your growing baby (hence, a good sign), it can be a struggle to deal with on a daily basis.

Surprisingly, there are some easy, natural ways to deal with the fatigue and sluggishness without having to pop in pills. We list out five such ways to deal with pregnancy exhaustion.

3/7

Get moving through the day

Even though you might feel tired and drained out, getting in some physical activity could be one of the best ways to deal with constant exhaustion that is associated with pregnancy. Pre-natal exercise is an important aspect of taking care of your body. Exercising also releases endorphins which make you energetic, lower stress levels and can also take care of frequent aches and pains. In a word, stay active as you progress along with your pregnancy.

4/7

Have an anti-inflammatory diet

It's important to eat well and have frequent meals when you are caring for a baby in your belly. Since pregnancy also makes you experience terrible episodes of morning sickness (which can leave you drained), make sure you are eating a balanced and nourishing diet. In the third trimester, blood pressure and blood sugar levels can also drop, making you feel more tired and exhausted. A good diet, which covers all nutrient groups, had in moderation would cover imbalances. Consume foods which are high on protein and energy- such as legumes, grains, nuts and seeds on a regular basis. Keep snacks handy to keep fatigued driven hunger pangs away as well.

5/7

Accept help, where you can

Raising a child is always a team effort and so is pregnancy. Instead of overstraining yourself, try and share your workload with your spouse, family members, friends. Remember, pregnancy is the time to take it slow so it's best if you don't tire your body and reserve some energy for the baby. Rest when you can take on chores in moderation. If you are juggling between work and home, try and adopt an easier and healthier lifestyle which would also help once the baby's here.

6/7

Make self-care a priority

Heard all about the pregnancy pampering? Well, the nine months is really the time to try out self-care and pamper yourself. Go in for massages, peaceful prenatal yoga sessions, make yourself a soothing bath, read a book or meditate- focus on prioritizing your mental health. It would also drive exhaustion and fatigue away. Studies have also suggested that listening to upbeat music can also have therapeutic effects for the mom and baby's health.

7/7

Catch more sleep

Feeling extra sluggish and out of energy with the new baby coming? Well, it might be time to catch up on extra snooze hours while you can. Sleep is one of the best remedies to deal with tiredness, weakness and fatigue. Make your bed comfortable, do away with any distractions and get good sleep. Frequent naps through the day can also keep you recharged.

While caffeine consumption can drive a controversial debate during pregnancy, it's best suited if you taper your drinking habits to the lowest. Lastly, listen to what your body's trying to tell you and take note of your signs. If you feel extra tired than usual, getting professional help may also help. Well-prescribed pre-natal supplements, support groups and medical advice can help you have a healthier and happier pregnancy.
