There are several factors that might be affecting the gut health of your kid

If your child is always complaining about a painful abdomen, it’s time you look into the daily habits of your child instead of making frequent visits to the doctor. These activities might be so commonly ingrained in your child that it won’t be making any difference to you, unless and until you observe it clearly.

Unclean hands

Of the several reasons because of which one has a troubled stomach, the most prominent and sure shot one is unclean hands.

If your child frequently puts hands into the mouth, it is likely that he or she might be transferring loads of harmful bacteria and viruses into the stomach. This also draws attention to the fact that your child's hands are not clean whenever it puts it in the mouth.

Therefore watch the cleaning habits and sanitizing frequency of your child. Teach your child to clean hands for at least a few seconds per wash using a good soap and clean water.

3/8

Food allergy

We often ignore this part of medical science. Even commonly eaten food like wheat in India, can also cause serious allergies in both kids and adults. Negligence towards this allergy gives it ample time to progress leading to severe complications.

If your child is complaining about frequent stomach pain, then do take a look at your pantry.

Constipation

No, constipation is not an adult problem only. Kids can also have difficulty in emptying the bowel. If your child takes longer hours to complete the bathroom chore, you should check it with your child.

Chronic constipation in kids will affect the gut health and appetite of the kid.

5/8

Eating unhealthy things

Many kids tend to eat soil or lick walls. If for no reason, your child is complaining about stomach pain, do observe your child's activity.

Kids lick the back of the pencil, pen and even chew them regularly. The saliva and tiny food particles trapped in the mouth settle on the pencil and invite germs to grow and thrive. When your child puts the same pencil back in its mouth it's actually putting a mouthful of germs into the mouth.

6/8

Stealthy eating

Many kids have the tendency to eat a lot. Even after the regular meals, these kids would stealthily eat the snacks and whatever other things that are in their reach.

This overeating can be a reason for stomach ache as well.

What does abdominal pain in kids feel like?

In kids, the abdominal pain can come as pangs of pain or like waves or even like small bouts or episodes.

Health experts say, the pain in the entire region of the belly can be due to stomach virus, indigestion or may even be due to constipation. The pain which are like heavy pangs might be due to gas and bloating. Pain due to food allergy can come in waves and there can be multiple waves of such pain in a given time period.

8/8

Underlying health complications

There can be several other medical reasons why your child might be experiencing frequent pain in the stomach.

Surgical problems like appendicitis, bowel obstruction or intussusception (telescoping of part of the gut) can lead to immense pain in the stomach.

A muscle strain near the belly region can also cause the pain confusing the child if it is an internal pain or an external one.

Young girls can experience stomach pain just before their menstruation begins.

It is always advisable to contact a doctor immediately once the symptoms are spotted in the child.
