As and when a royal is expecting or when they give birth, the Queen must be the first person to be informed. This is a royal protocol that must be followed by everyone in the British Royal Family.

Baby showers and gender reveal parties are prohibited

Prior to the birth of the baby, baby showers and revealing the gender of the baby is strictly prohibited under any circumstances. However, it is reported that Meghan Markle did have one and some people weren't clearly impressed. This is before she and her husband stepped back from her royal duties in early 2020.
