Travel safe with your little one

Travelling is, in itself, a humongous task. You are taking care of passports, boarding passes, luggage, additionals, all the while trying to find where your train or entry door is. And this task becomes even more complicated with babies. While taking your child on an excursion is a rewarding and memorable experience, it can also be quite challenging. The safety and comfort of the kid is a top priority during any road trip, flight or train journey. Here we list a few ways you can make your travel experience safer and more enjoyable for your little ones without any added stress on your or your baby.

2/9

Road travel - Car seats

When traveling by car, the first consideration should be to ensure your child’s safety, and a properly installed car seat is essential for the same. Invest in a high-quality infant car seat that meets all safety standards put down by other parents and the leading companies. Make sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions if installing it yourself or get a professional to do it for you. Additionally, if your child is younger than a year, make sure the seat is in a rear facing position. This will ensure utmost safety and protection to the baby in case of a mishap.

3/9

Take adequate breaks

If it is a long trip and you plan to stay on the road for 8+ hours, make sure to take adequate breaks in between. Plan your travel in a way that it gives you breaks for feeding, diaper changes and allows you and the baby to stretch a little in between. Plus, keep with you ample toys and baby treats to help with the fuss they might create.

4/9

Invest in baby glasses and mirrors

Buying suitable and high quality sunshades for the car and your baby will ensure that the car or their eyes do not heat up easily and are not too bright for them. The sunshades on the car help keep the temperature normal and the baby glasses help your kid have some rest or even get some sleep, even while the sun is bright outside.
Furthermore, a baby mirror is another piece of equipment you can buy to keep a watch on your kid. It is attached to the backseat allowing you to keep an eye on your baby without turning around, ensuring their safety without taking your focus off the road.

5/9

Air travel - Plan in advance

When flying with your baby, planning ahead is very important. Check with your airline for their specific policies on traveling with infants and whether they provide special services, like bassinets or priority boarding. Some flights also provide seat belt extenders that can help you tuck your baby with you on the seat that can help you keep everything in place.

6/9

Carry bag essentials

Pack a single bag where you intend to keep all the essentials. Diapers, wipes, d=formula, extra clothes, toys and the likes. Make sure it is your carry on bag as you can only carry one on the flight. Try to pack one extra pair in the carry-on for yourself as well, in case your baby pukes or spills something on the plane. Also try to invest in a foldable bassinet and a baby carrier for your baby to sleep or rest in during the flight and the carrier will allow you to move your hands freely during the take off or boarding process.

7/9

Ear pressure problems

Try to talk to your doctor before preparing for a flight travel. The ear pressure during the flight or take off can make the baby irritable and in pain. Medical advice on how to prevent ear pressure problems is the best way to go. You can also try reading online blogs for headphones or protective equipment to help during the flight.

8/9

Train travel - First AC compartment

While travelling with a baby, booking your train tickets in advance and in first or second class is the best way to go. First class allows you more space and privacy and ensures that your baby does not listen to any extra noises that a train usually has. Similarly, your co-passengers won't have to deal with a fussy baby during the night.

9/9

Additionals to carry

To avoid any unnecessary fuss, it is important to keep the baby well fed. Try to take with you a portable blender that will help you juice or puree fruits whenever the baby is hungry. Further, carry with you some foldable tables that can work as diaper or cloth changing areas. They come in handy especially when the tables in the train are a little wobbly and not exactly sturdy for your child’s safety.
