7 times Prince George proved he’s a future King in the making

Teacher, doctor, pop star, or astronaut — many children know what they want to become when they grow up. While many have to explore their interests and decide what to become as they grow, Prince George, the 12-year-old royal, has it all figured out for him. He is going to be King one day.

2026 is a pivotal year for future King Prince George, the second in line to the British throne. Prince William and Princess Catherine’s eldest son will enter secondary school this September. He currently attends Lambrook School with his younger siblings, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. In July, he will officially become a teenager and turn 13. He is slowly but surely being introduced to his royal life ahead. With a big destiny ahead, all eyes are on the 12-year-old. Let’s take a look at the times when Prince George proved he is a future King in the making.

Coronation Page of Honour (2023)

Prince George, then nine years old, served as a Page of Honour during King Charles III’s coronation. The young royal remained composed and graceful, hinting at a seamless transition. He became the youngest future King to have a formal role in a coronation. This historic role pointed to his readiness for ceremonial duties.

Veterans’ Tea at Buckingham Palace (2025)

Last year, Prince George made his first solo official engagement, which involved hosting WWII veterans at Buckingham Palace. The young royal thoughtfully engaged with them and listened to their stories with the utmost interest and respect. His natural gravitas, a key trait for future diplomacy, was praised by many. “George was the star of the room. He was engrossed in conversation with many of the veterans, who were delighted to speak to him as well,” a source told HELLO!

UEFA Euro 2024 final appearance

In 2024, Prince George accompanied his father, Prince William, to the UEFA European Football Championship final in Berlin. He met and chatted with Prime Minister Keir Starmer and players during the appearance. This was another cue as to how the young royal showed ease at high-profile sporting events.

5/8

Wimbledon debut

Prince George made his Wimbledon debut in 2022. Then eight years old, he attended the final with his parents and watched Novak Djokovic defeat Nick Kyrgios. His interactions and demeanour showcased his growing confidence in public settings, a preparation for state occasions.

6/8

Christmas Sandringham walkabout (2025)

Last Christmas, Prince George joined the family on Christmas morning for the church walk, which, of course, won hearts — especially for his protective gestures towards siblings Charlotte and Louis.

7/8

Interest in the military

Prince George has inherited his family’s interest in the military. He is indeed fascinated by the armed forces, aligning with his father’s service. Remember the time when Prince George joined the Royal Family on Buckingham Palace’s balcony to watch the Red Arrows flypast, marking 80 years since the end of the Second World War in Europe.

Private kingship lessons

Prince George is preparing to become the future King. According to reports, he has been undergoing tailored kingship lessons privately.

Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams told the Daily Mail that George is “being well prepared for his unique royal role”. “As future King, he will undoubtedly see service in the armed forces. Privately, his parents will have schooled him to be part of the military tradition, which goes back hundreds of years. Queen Elizabeth famously said, ‘I must be seen to be believed,’ and an appearance on certain state occasions by George is now expected,” the expert told the outlet.
