7 plants that will survive in your garden, even if you forget giving them water

It isn't possible for every individual to provide regular watering and take care of their plants. Sometimes busy schedules and even forgetfulness can lead to negligence towards plant care. However, there are certain hardy plants that store moisture efficiently, thrive in heat, and even survive neglect. These plants also look very attractive and serve perfectly for balconies and terrace gardens. In this presentation, we will discuss 7 plants which have great resistance to a lack of watering.

2/9

Snake plant – tough indoor plant that tolerates neglect

Snake plant is a popular houseplant because it survives neglect very easily. Moisture is stored in its thick upright leaves and allows the plant to live even in dry soils for a prolonged period of time. It also adapts to both indoor and outdoor conditions easily.

3/9

Aloe vera – moisture-retaining succulent

Moisture is retained by the thick, fleshy leaves of aloe vera and makes this plant very resistant to dry environments. Overwatering becomes the main enemy of this plant instead of dryness, as this can cause problems. Also, aloe vera prefers sunny spots and doesn't need too much care after initial development.

4/9

Bougainvillaea – flowering plants which tolerate drought well

Bougainvillea features beautiful flowers in pink, purple, orange, and white colour. Even during hot periods, bougainvillaea continues to bloom and needs to be watered moderately when grown fully. This plant thrives best in a sunny climate such as that in India. Bougainvillaea can be spotted near gates and on garden walls as well as balconies.

5/9

Jade plant – hardy succulent for low-maintenance gardens

Jade plant is another succulent which retains moisture in its thick green leaves. Growing slowly, it survives drought quite well. Moreover, many people decide to grow a jade plant indoors due to its low-maintenance requirements and adaptation abilities to pots. With regular watering and sunlight, the plant stays alive and thrives for many years.

6/9

Portulaca – flowering drought-resistant succulent

Portulaca, also called moss rose, develops beautiful, colourful flowers while living in dry sunny places. Its thick leaves, similar to those of succulents, allow to survive even during heat and drought. This plant serves as a favourite choice for balcony and roadside gardens due to its low maintenance and attractive blooms.

7/9

ZZ plant – easy-to-grow indoor plant

The ZZ plant is recommended to be used by gardeners who cannot devote a lot of time to plant care. The water retention ability of waxy leaves and rhizomes helps the plant withstand dry periods very well. Additionally, it grows well both indoors and outdoors as well as with low lighting.

8/9

Lavender – an attractive plant with a relaxing scent

This plant with fragrant flowers is very resistant to dry conditions. After planting, lavender does not need too much water and thrives well in sunny spots with excellent drainage. Lavender flowers attract insects such as bees and butterflies and add charm to gardens. Too much water causes more damage to the plant than drought.
