6 amazing plants that can grow from a single leaf

Many gardeners believe that propagating a plant necessarily requires some seeds, stems, or cuttings. But nature never ceases to surprise us, and even more so. Several types of plants can grow from one intact leaf only. Given favourable conditions, this leaf will give roots and new sprouts and turn into an autonomous plant. Such a process is called leaf propagation, and besides being cost-effective, it's also really entertaining to observe. These are the types of plants whose propagation can be done using a single leaf only.

2/7

Jade Plant – A lucky plant that grows with ease

Propagating a jade plant couldn't be easier. It is enough to remove one intact healthy leaf, leave it for a couple of days in order to dry it out and then put it on the ground. Tiny roots and plant sprouts will emerge, and soon you'll get a fully grown plant. These plants don't require much care and are usually seen as lucky charms that attract prosperity and good fortune to any household.

3/7

Snake Plant – Hardworking and stylish, as well as easily reproduced

There are not so many plants that can be propagated using a single part of a leaf. But the Snake plant is the one that can be easily propagated by dividing the healthy leaves into small sections and putting them on soil or even water until the roots form. Although it takes about three weeks, the plant becomes rooted in the end. It can be said that this stylish plant will purify the air in your room and bring comfort and peace to your home.

4/7

African Violet – Colourful plant, small leaves, lots of blooms

This type of plant became very popular because of its small-sized leaves and pretty coloured flowers that adorn your windowsill. It turns out that only one leaf with its short stem is enough for obtaining a fully grown plant if put in an appropriate growing medium with adequate humidity. As for the roots, small plantlets appear from the bottom of the leaf. It's necessary to be patient until the flowers come, though.

5/7

Kalanchoe – Amazing self-propagating wonder of nature

This amazing plant is considered to be an ideal one for growing because of its amazing reproductive abilities. There are varieties of kalanchoe that have tiny plantlets attached to their leaves, which eventually drop off and turn into new plants. Also, it's worth noting that the separated leaf can also grow roots, although in some cases. Apart from reproduction abilities, there are also nice flowers that this plant bears.

6/7

Begonia – A miraculous leaf that produces new plant

Begonias can be used for propagating a whole plant only using its leaf. There are varieties of begonias that can create a new plant out of a vein of a leaf. In order to do so, it's enough to make tiny cuts in the leaf veins and put them on the moistened soil. Rooting and formation of the sprout will occur on cut areas of the vein within some weeks.

7/7

Bryophyllum - Plant producing offspring on its leaves

Bryophyllum is often referred to as the "Mother of Thousands" due to its amazing capability to sprout baby plants from the sides of its leaves. The baby plants grow roots when still attached to the main leaf. After dropping down to the ground, they can easily start growing on their own as full-fledged plants. This amazing feature makes Bryophyllum among the easiest plants to grow. Due to this interesting feature, Bryophyllum is commonly demonstrated in schools for its unique method of plant reproduction without seeds.
