Some tips to overcome common weight loss barriers

Losing weight is not as easy as it sounds. It is a complex process and every individual has to undergo their own set of challenges on their journey to shed kilos. You might be eating right and even exercising two times a day, even then you can hit roadblocks on your way due to stress, time, genetics, and body image. The truth is that we all face challenges, but that does mean that we cannot overcome them or attain our objective. You need to tackle these problems and keep moving forward. Here are 5 most common barriers in shedding kilos and how to overcome them.

2/6

Staying hydrated

Drinking sufficient water in a day can boost your metabolism, improve digestion and prevent you from overeating. Even studies suggest that people who drink more water in a day can see faster weight loss results. To ensure sufficient water intake, fill 2 bottles of 1 litre each in the morning and keep it on your table. Make sure that you finish those two bottles by the end of the day. Another way is to drink a glass of water before your meal. Try to drink water from a glass and not directly from the bottle. When you drink water directly from the bottle you tend to drink less fluid. Every time you feel thirsty, drink a glass of water.

3/6

Improve quality of sleep

Not getting enough sleep in a day can mess up your metabolism and increase the craving for unhealthy foods. Try to get 7 to 8 hours of sleep every night. If you find it hard to sleep at night then practise good sleeping habits. Go to sleep at the same time each night, sleep in a cool, dark room, and remove electronic devices to encourage a relaxing environment. Even on weekends go to bed and wake up at the same time. If required take a nap in the afternoon. Also, for quality sleep at night, do not use any kind of gadgets at least 2 hours before going to bed.

4/6

Keep yourself motivated

Staying motivated is another emotional barrier that most people face when trying to shed kilos. When people fail to see any positive result, they leave the journey mid-way. Keeping yourself motivated to reach your goal is a complex task and for that, you need to adopt techniques like positive self-talk and journaling. Self-monitoring has also proven to be an effective tool for weight loss.

5/6

Add variations to your workout

To lose weight effectively, you need to challenge your body. Performing the same exercises every day can slow down your progress. Add variations and increase sets when performing any kind of exercise. If you are not a fan of gymming then perform yoga or bodyweight workout at home. There are a variety of yoga asanas and variations of bodyweight exercises, try to add them to your routine to engage more muscle and challenge your body. Apart from this, try to stay active all day long. Move from your chair after every hour, take stairs instead of the elevator and walk every time you are talking over the phone.

6/6

Manage your stress level

Your stress level is another factor that can bother you and hinder your weight loss process. Busy schedule, family issues, a lack of weight loss results, or a medical condition, anything can contribute to your stress level. To manage your stress level, try meditation, breathing techniques, or journaling. If you are suffering from chronic stress, which has become difficult to handle, seek an expert's help.
