Suffering from chronic constipation? These 5 fruits can help ease bowel movements

Chronic constipation affects many people, and while it may seem harmless, it can lead to headache, bloating, gas, and severe headaches, not to forget the immense frustration. Besides drinking enough water, and exercising, the consumption of high-fiber fruits helps people achieve regular bowel movements, because these foods increase stool volume, and make stools softer. Take a look at 5 such fruits - however, they are not a substitute for medication, if prescribed.

Blackberries

Blackberries provide 7.6 grams of dietary fiber per cup serving. The insoluble fiber in blackberries helps waste movement through intestines, while preventing hard stools, that are both painful, and hard to pass. Blackberries also ease digestion their polyphenol and antioxidant content which fights inflammation in the gut. Research shows that blackberries together with other berry types, help people with occasional constipation. You can alternate blackberries with blueberries as well.

3/6

Raspberries

Raspberries is a high-fiber fruit because it provides 8 grams of fiber per cup serving. The insoluble fiber in raspberries works to increase stool volume, while improving colon movement which prevents waste accumulation. The antioxidants found in raspberries work to decrease intestinal swelling, which leads to better bowel function.

4/6

Guava

The fiber content in guava fruit amounts to 3 grams per 100 grams of fruit, which consists of mostly insoluble fiber that expands stool volume. The fruit contains vitamin C and antioxidants which team up to defend the gut lining. Studies show that eating guava produces improved gut function and stool consistency, which results in normal bowel movements. The dietary fiber in these fruits promotes the development of beneficial gut bacteria which establishes a balanced digestive system that fights constipation.

5/6

Avocado

An avocado contains 10 grams of fiber, which includes soluble fiber that helps maintain stool softness and easy passage. The fiber content in avocados works with their healthy fats and vital nutrients to create a balanced gut environment while minimizing inflammation. Pears

A pear contains 5-6 grams of fiber, which consists of both soluble, and insoluble fiber. The combination of fiber types in pears helps create bulk in stools, while attracting water to the colon, which results in softer, and more manageable bowel movements. The digestive process becomes faster because of sorbitol, which occurs naturally in pears. Research indicates that eating pears with their skin will enhance stool production, and make stools more consistent.
